TEACHER´S NOTE

Dear Parents,
We are pleased to inform you about our planning for the second quarter. We will continue with the Project “Music in our lives”.
Every month, we will have two cool songs that we will work on by doing some vocabulary and phonetic activities, discussing the
lyrics and of course learning how to sing them beautifully.
The new Social studies Project is about German. The kids will learn about how life is there, what they eat, where they go and what
they do to have fun. There is going to have a presentation on the International Night where the kids will have the opportunity to
show what they learned.
In Language Arts, we will work with vocabulary acquisition through the stories on The Reading Street and the On-level reader
books in order to read for meaning, get fluency and reinforce vocabulary.
Last quarter, the kids learned some kinds of stories like fable, narrative nonfiction, and narrative poem. From now on, they will
study a newspaper article, expository and realistic fiction texts. They will learn how to retell these stories; determine the central
message lesson or moral and observe how they are held through key details in the text. When they read a story, they describe the
characters and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events.
The students will continue practicing speaking by acting out stories. They will decide who are going to be the characters and they
will invite students from other classrooms to watch them acting out. They are going to be encouraged to participate in collaborative
conversations with their partners, ask and answer questions about information from a speaker, offering appropriate elaboration and
detail.
In the first quarter, in Math, our class studied about addition and subtraction. The students practiced and refined addition and
subtraction strategies and focused on different types of subtraction problems. They worked on understanding the place value of 3digit numbers and learned about the size of the number 1,000.
Now, our class is starting a new Mathematics unit about Surveys and Line Plots. Students will learn many ways to collect and
organize data. When students are familiar with reading line plots, we introduce them to the different ways to describe data. We are
going to show graphs that cover a variety of topics; for example, graphs from science and social studies books. This activity will
help them to appreciate the relevance of graphs in our world.
In Science, the students learned many things about plants, their parts, where they live, how they grow and how they are grouped.
We are going to continue talking about this topic when the kids report how their beans are growing.
For the second quarter, we are going to study about animals. They are going to learn how different animals live, grow, and change.
They are going to identify the needs of animals and their life cycles of birth, growth, development, reduction, and death. They are
going to learn that the changes in the habitat of an organism may be beneficial or harmful.
In the Science Learning Center, they are going to explore and investigate the subject by the experiments. Just as important,
experiments allow students to practice being scientists: discussing, developing hypotheses, designing experiments and predicting
outcomes. The students develop their powers of observation, thinking and problem-solving and they have so much fun
participating or observing.
It’s important to have in mind that some of these contents presented here can be expanded, if we notice that the kids are very
interested about the subject. On the other hand, some can be worked shortly or modified when we see that the topic are not being
well accepted by them.

Prezados Pais,
Temos o prazer de informá-los sobre nosso planejamento para o segundo bimestre. Continuaremos com o Projeto “Música em
nossas vidas”. Todo mês trabalharemos com duas músicas bem legais e aprenderemos novo vocabulário e treinaremos a pronúncia
das palavras, estudando a letra e, é claro, aprendendo a cantar a melodia.
O novo projeto de Estudos Sociais será sobre a Alemanha. As crianças irão aprender sobre como é a vida nesse país, o que eles
comem, onde eles costumam ir e o que fazem para se divertir. Haverá uma apresentação na “Noite Internacional”, momento em
que os alunos terão a oportunidade de mostrar tudo que aprenderam.
Em “Language Arts”, os alunos vão ler histórias do livro “Reading Street”, estudando, assim, novo vocabulário, assim como os
livros em sala “On-level reader” com o objetivo de compreender textos, obter fluência na leitura e reforçar a aquisição de novo
vocabulário.
No último bimestre, os alunos aprenderam sobre alguns gêneros como as fábulas, as narrativas de não-ficção e os poemas
narrativos. Agora, eles vão estudar sobre o artigo de jornal e textos expositivos e de ficção realística. Eles aprenderão a recontar
essas histórias, vão reconhecer a mensagem principal ou moral e vão observar como os detalhes e as ideias secundárias dão suporte
à ideia principal. Quando os estudantes lerem uma história, eles vão descrever os personagens e explicar como suas ações
contribuem para a sequência de fatos que ocorrem no decorrer da narrativa.
Os alunos continuarão praticando a oralidade pela prática de dramatizar as histórias. Eles decidirão quem serão os personagens e
vão chamar outras classes para assistir a essas dramatizações. Eles serão encorajados a participar de conversas de forma
colaborativa, fazendo perguntas e respondendo aos colegas, elaborando essas perguntas e respostas com riqueza de detalhes.
No primeiro bimestre, em Matemática, nossa classe estudou sobre adição e subtração. Os alunos praticaram as estratégias de
adição e substração em diferentes tipos de problemas. Eles trabalharam no entendimento da posição de números de três dígitos e
aprenderam sobre o tamanho do número 1.000.
Agora, nossa turma está começando uma nova unidade da Matemática sobre pesquisa e gráficos lineares. Nessa unidade, os alunos
aprenderão várias formas de coletar dados e organizá-los corretamente. Quando os alunos estão familiarizados com a leitura de
gráficos, nós estamos apresentando para eles diferentes formas de descrever os dados. Essa atividade os ajudará a apreciar a
relevância dos gráficos no mundo.
Em Ciência, os alunos aprenderam muito sobre as plantas, as suas partes, onde são encontradas, como crescem e como são
agrupadas. Vamos continuar a estudar esse assunto e eles as crianças irão contar como os feijões estão crescendo. Para o segundo
bimestre, vamos começar a estudar sobre os animais. Eles vão aprender sobre como os diferentes animais vivem, crescem e
mudam. Eles vão identificar quais são as necessidades dos animais e seus ciclos de nascimento, crescimento, desenvolvimento,
redução e morte. Eles vão aprender que as mudanças nos habitats de um organismo podem ser benéficas ou prejudiciais.
No Centro de Aprendizagem de Ciências, os alunos vão explorar e investigar esses assuntos fazendo experimentos. Os
experimentos proporcionam aos alunos a prática de cientistas: discutir, formular hipóteses, planejar experimentos e prever
resultados. Os alunos vão desenvolver o poder de observação, resolução de problemas e vão se divertir participando e observando.
