Motivation Letter – Grundtvig Assistantship
My name is Luciana Oliveira, I am 22 years old and I am from Portugal. I would
like to apply for the Grundtvig program to be an assistant. I studied Social Education
and during my internship at a center for homeless people I organized activities related to
adult education as well as I developed a project in a lifelong learning perspective.
Because of my background I became deeply interested in adult education.
This year I participated in a European Voluntary Service in Hungary and this
experience helped me to be aware of other European programs, especially Grundtvig
assistantship. In my opinion, it is very important to develop the educational sector and
that is why I am looking for opportunities to obtain experience and knowledge in this
field.
It is essential to focus on higher goals and one of my aims is to combine
practical action with a desire for improvement along with being available to meet other
countries and to interact with other ways of thinking, feeling, acting.
I am eager to learn new things and I am interested in people around me. On one
hand, those characteristics allied to my interest and motivation in some topics such as
European awareness, citizenship, the development of social responsibility and
solidarity, can be some of my contributes. On the other hand, I can develop personal,
social, intercultural skills and get an enriching experience as an assistant in an
organisation associated to adult education. I believe it may be a rewarding opportunity
of personal growth on several levels of human quality life.

for the work that ONGs can do specifically in developing countries, education and the
extreme desire of learning more about the work carried on in such exceptional institution.

In which areas of work would you like to be involved and how?
Would you like to teach your culture and mother tongue?
I would like to work in the adult informal education field. Work with a team trying to
understand how is the work of an ONG and how a person like me, Teacher, can be part of
that work, implementing courses, workshops, projects, delivering high quality materials
and humble strategies to develop the conditions for the people that lives in particular
contexts creating by themselves more opportunities to improve their own life.
I am interested too in exchanging my own culture with other different of mine.

I’ve worked as a private teacher of adults and children in Seville since 2009. I teach
Spanish, English, drawing, mathematics, physics and chemistry for technical
certification and entrance exam for formal educations.
Despite the situation in my country (Spain) is hard, I don’t resign myself. I want to
keep learning to teach and I’d like to improve my language skills too. I think I can help
people in many ways and at the same time I can learn a lot from them (education
methods, ideas and language).
I can teach:
 Languages/culture: Spanish (mother tongue) and English (Intermediate).
 Computer Skills (CAD, Office tools, internet, etc.)
 Basketball. I was manager/cough for a local team for two years. I was player for
ten years.
 Latin dances (Salsa and Bachata). I’ve attend dance classes for three years.
I also can translate from English to Spanish.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am an English teacher in need of better learning opportunities. Yes, I wrote learning
and not teaching opportunities, because I see myself as a learner. I would like to learn
something different for my job because I strongly believe that working as a teacher
implies keeping a learner’s attitude.
As a learner, I boast two university degrees, in English and Spanish literature and
linguistics, as well as doctorate courses and a master in applied linguistics. As an
individual, I am so used to teach different people and to change groups so often, that my
main hobby is meeting new people. Other hobbies include well worn-out items such as
listening to music, reading, going hiking, visiting museums, traveling...
As a teacher, I have been teaching English to adults since 2005 up to the present
moment. I work for the Official School of Languages, a public system of foreign
language schools for adults, run by the local authorities and ruled by the national
Ministry of Education. I also taught Spanish as a foreign language, while living abroad.
In spite of my condition of learner, I honed my teaching skills not only with adults, but
with teachers themselves, since I have been called by the educational authorities to
teach updating courses to Primary teachers in the past four years.
Now, it is high time to seek further, that is, to learn more in order to be a better
professional. I would like to be given the opportunity of seeing different ways of
performance and management of adult education - an opportunity that can only be given
by means of visiting educational organizations within the European realm.
