Empresa Municipal de Habitação Social (Housing Municipal Council) Belonging to Funchal Town
Hall, is a judicial, administrative autonomous, financial and patrimonial Council. Its aims are the
housing social project, management of the housing area of the City Council and the social work
with families living in these quarters. The Council has as Mission the Integration, development
and empowerment of people from disadvantages background.
We work with people from disadvantages backgrounds we have 1227 families living in our social
houses and our aim is to give then skills to live in Community, we give social houses to people
that don´t have conditions to rent or to buy one but our mission is to promote in then social and
professional skills. To implement our adult education we have Social Centers in total of 7 centers
where we provide activities in different areas:
Health, Education, Training, Environment, Sport, Social - Cultural Activities, Social Skills, Parental
training and Plastic Arts and has been aimed at several target groups namely children, youngsters
and adults/ elderly.
2- we operate in local context with the families that live in our social houses, Adults, Senior,
Youngster’s and children´s
3- We already host volunteers from European Volunteer Service – Youth in Action Programme in
our Social Centers, and from Eurodisseia Programme

Motivation to host a Visitor/Assistant
We are very motivated to host an Assistant to show and to transmit the work that we are doing in
social field and at the same time to learn whit him/her.

Possible tasks for a Visitor/Assistant
In which areas of work will the Visitor/Assistant be involved and how?
How will the Visitor/Assistant be involved in extra-curricular activities of your institution and, if
applicable, in other activities of the local community?
Will the Visitor/Assistant have an opportunity to teach his/her culture and mother tongue?
1- The Assistant will be involved in several projects in this areas : Adult Education Health,
Education, Training, Environment, Sport, Social - Cultural Activities, Social Skills, and
Plastic Arts
2- We will include our assistant in our extra-curricular activities that we have access in our
city, visits to the theatre, Museums, Festivals etc.
3- The Culture and mother tongue of the assistant is very important for us because the
intercultural learning is something that we want to use in our Centers. For us its important
to learn and understand the culture and she or he will have the opportunity to show us
his/her culture and mother tongue.

We need people from several areas to join our team:
Dance, Art, English Teachers, Music, theatre, social Educators, phycology, social work , sport
We want assistant that want to experience, learn and develop activities in these places that we
have available and we give the guaranty that they will have a good integration.
