Resumo
Abstract
Tendo sido a principal fonte receptora de portugueses desde o século XVI, foi no final da
década de 80 do século passado que os fluxos inversos de brasileiros para Portugal
começaram a desenhar-se. Com um contingente que não parou de crescer desde então,
o interesse nesta área também se foi ampliando, debruçando-se a presente investigação
sobre o fenómeno no Grande Porto, analisado na perspectiva das classes sociais e do
território. Em concreto, recorreremos a metodologias de tipo quantitativo e qualitativo
que, através de pesquisa e análise bibliográfica e documental diversa, inquéritos a uma
amostra representativa dos imigrantes brasileiros no Grande Porto, entrevistas
semidirectivas a casos tipo/singulares dessa mesma população, procura compreender a
forma como os processos migratórios estão relacionados com a mobilidade social e
distribuição espacial, contribuindo para uma percepção alargada da integração na
sociedade de acolhimento, nas suas dimensões social, cultural e política.

Even though Brazil received a large number of Portuguese immigrants from the 16
century onward, it was at the end of the 1980s that inverse flows of Brazilians to Portugal
began to occur. Since then, this migratory movement has grown constantly and,
consequently, interest in this area has also increased. This research will focus on the
case of Greater Porto, analyzed from the perspective of the social classes and the
territory. Methodologies of the quantitative and qualitative type will be employed, as well
as bibliographic and documental research and analysis, questionnaires applied to a
representative sample of Greater Porto’s Brazilian immigrants, semi-directive interviews of
typical/singular cases among this same population, in an effort to understand how
migratory processes are related with social mobility and spatial distribution, contributing to
a broader perception of their integration in the receiving society, in its social, cultural and
political dimensions.
