Mattos Filho and Motta Fernandes close healthcare buy
in Brazil

Mattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr e Quiroga Advogados has helped International SOS, a medical,
clinical, and security service provider, acquire a 49 per cent stake in Brazil-based International Health
Care (IHC).
IHC, which is a provider of health advisory, occupational health and remote and offshore health services, turned
to Motta, Fernandes Rocha - Advogados and Rosman, Penalva, Souza Leão, Franco e Advogados for M&A,
corporate and tax advice in the deal that closed on 14 September.
Motta Fernandes partner Otto Eduardo Fonseca de Albuquerque Lobo says the acquisition reflects 'one more
important deal' in Brazil's healthcare industry, adding that the involvement of a company with 'a worldwide
presence' will help fulfil the country's need for 'high end investment in logistic services.'
In recent months, Brazil's healthcare industry has witnessed Lobo & de Rizzo Advogados advise healthcare
operator Lincx Sistemas de Saúde in its sale to its rival, the Amil Group, for US$107 million, and last year saw
Barretto Ferreira, Kujawski e Brancher - Sociedade de Advogados assist Philips Medical Systems its acquisition
of Wheb Informática, a Brazilian provider of clinical application systems.
IHC was founded in 1999 by a Brazilian surgeon to provide healthcare, medical assistance and evacuation
services to companies working in remote locations within Brazil and off its shore.
