Client Alert Environment Law October 2013 Take Back Proposals for Used/Expired Drugs and their Packaging The Ministry of the Environment has published invitation 02/2013 for manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers to present take back proposals for used/expired drugs and their packaging. Relevant data from the invitation is: Call for Proposals – Take back of Drugs Waste Used/Expired Drugs from Domestic Users and their packaging Stakeholders Manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers involved Purpose Present take back proposal (involving collection, transportation and final disposal in compliance with environmental rules) Deadline February 7, 2014 Goals The proposed take back system should: Qualitative targets: • Encompass 100% of cities with more than 100.000 habitants within 5 years; • Implement a collection point/bin for every 20.000 habitants in the cities encompassed by the system within 5 years; • Provide an environmentally appropriate final destination for 100% of the drugs received from consumers. Quantitative targets: • Ensure that 3.79Kg/month and 237,336.00 Kg/year of drugs are received from consumers.
