The first part of this talk will address the potential of nanotechnologies in the development of: (i) in vitro diagnostics; (ii) in vivo diagnosis; (iii) targeted delivery of therapeutic agents; and (iv) regenerative medicine. The application of top-down micro and nanofabricated devices as well as bottom-up organization of nanoparticles and nanostructured materials will be discussed. The second part of the talk will describe applications currently under development in our laboratory, focusing on the use of microfluidic lab-on-a-chip devices as portable, economic, high-sensitivity biosensors with multiplexing capabilities. 23-24 Outubro, Campus de Gualtar, Braga
