UNICEF BRAZIL
Vacancy Notice RH/2014/003
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the world's leading organisation focusing on
children and child rights, is inviting qualified professionals to apply for the following
consultancy:
Purpose:
Carry out tasks related to the “My Trainer is Top-Notch” and “My Team
is Top-notch” projects.
Background:
In the next three years, Brazil will enter history by hosting the two
biggest sporting events in the world: the FIFA World Cup in 2014 and
the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2016. This scenery would not be
more favourable to understand how sports can be important for the lives
of children and adolescents and how it can contribute to their
development.
The practice of safe and inclusive sport, as well as other kinds of leisure,
is essential for the development of children and adolescents, since it can
bring benefits to the health, stimulate the learning process, enlarge the
cultural universe and enhance socialization skills, generating these ways
better conditions of life.
Hosting these mega sporting events brings about several opportunities
to intensify the mechanisms to promote children and adolescents’ rights.
In light of this, UNICEF is carrying out two projects to reach this goal.
The “My Trainer is Top-Notch” project to educate and empower sports
coaches and physical education teachers to become positive catalysts for
child and youth development. The aim of My Coach is Top Notch is to
use sports as a tool to educate children and young citizens in order to
improve their quality of life, particularly in areas of social vulnerability,
leaving a sport legacy that goes far beyond infrastructure, facilities or
sports equipment.
The “My Team is Top-notch” aims to engage with professional sports
clubs in a partnership to promote children's right to play as a tool to
ensure a sustainable development of children, families and communities.
It is also an opportunity to spread messages, mobilize society and
resources, and encourage change by the development of a CSR Tool Kit
for professional sports clubs that includes a corporate social
responsibility score card and indicators to asses and keep track of
progress for each club. This tool kit is based on UNICEF’s business
principles for working with the private sector.
Upon compliment of the minimum expected levels of the CSR score card,
those teams who reach the standards of this program will be bestowed
with the “Child Friendly Club Seal (Time Amigo da Crianças)” to
recognize the team’s committed with the well-being of children,
adolescents and the community.
The implementation of these projects requires a dedicated and multi-
