UNICEF BRAZIL Vacancy Notice RH/2014/003 The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the world's leading organisation focusing on children and child rights, is inviting qualified professionals to apply for the following consultancy: Purpose: Carry out tasks related to the “My Trainer is Top-Notch” and “My Team is Top-notch” projects. Background: In the next three years, Brazil will enter history by hosting the two biggest sporting events in the world: the FIFA World Cup in 2014 and the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2016. This scenery would not be more favourable to understand how sports can be important for the lives of children and adolescents and how it can contribute to their development. The practice of safe and inclusive sport, as well as other kinds of leisure, is essential for the development of children and adolescents, since it can bring benefits to the health, stimulate the learning process, enlarge the cultural universe and enhance socialization skills, generating these ways better conditions of life. Hosting these mega sporting events brings about several opportunities to intensify the mechanisms to promote children and adolescents’ rights. In light of this, UNICEF is carrying out two projects to reach this goal. The “My Trainer is Top-Notch” project to educate and empower sports coaches and physical education teachers to become positive catalysts for child and youth development. The aim of My Coach is Top Notch is to use sports as a tool to educate children and young citizens in order to improve their quality of life, particularly in areas of social vulnerability, leaving a sport legacy that goes far beyond infrastructure, facilities or sports equipment. The “My Team is Top-notch” aims to engage with professional sports clubs in a partnership to promote children's right to play as a tool to ensure a sustainable development of children, families and communities. It is also an opportunity to spread messages, mobilize society and resources, and encourage change by the development of a CSR Tool Kit for professional sports clubs that includes a corporate social responsibility score card and indicators to asses and keep track of progress for each club. This tool kit is based on UNICEF’s business principles for working with the private sector. Upon compliment of the minimum expected levels of the CSR score card, those teams who reach the standards of this program will be bestowed with the “Child Friendly Club Seal (Time Amigo da Crianças)” to recognize the team’s committed with the well-being of children, adolescents and the community. The implementation of these projects requires a dedicated and multi- faceted project officer, with good knowledge of Sport for Development projects. The consultant will work directly under the coordinator of Sports for Development unit in UNICEF Brasilia Office. Work Assignment: Under the direct supervision of the Sport for Development Specialist, the consultant will specifically be responsible for but not limited to: 1) My Trainer is Top Notch Project: a) Support the partner with the definition of the methodology and the development of the contents of the training program; b) Coordinate with the implementing partner the selection of the professional sports clubs and their staff that will take part on the pilot program; c) Support the implementation of the pilot program; d) Develop a communication strategy for coordination with the implementing partner and the professional sports clubs, as well as the promotion of their participation in this project to the general public and media; e) Coordinate the up-scaling of the initiative to include staff from the Semi-arid, Amazon and PCUs municipalities to participate in the next phase of the program; f) Prepare monthly monitoring reports throughout the development of the project; g) Prepare donor proposals and donor reports as per required; h) Prepare a final report upon completion of the pilot phase, including recommendations and lessons learnt. 2) My Team is Top Notch Project: a) Coordinate the process of developing the methodology, registration forms, evaluation procedures and the indicators table related to the “Top-Notch” seal; b) Develop a communication strategy for the interlocution with the professional sports clubs, follow-up process of the participating teams and promotion of the teams aiming to be awarded with the “Child Friendly Club (Time Amigo da Crianças)” seal; c) Coordinate and oversee the evaluation process of each professional sports clubs in three stages: initial evaluation after the registration of the team, mid-term evaluation (6 months), final evaluation and delivery of the “Child Friendly Club (Time Amigo da Crianças)” seal; d) Prepare monthly monitoring reports throughout the development of the project; e) Prepare donor proposals and donor reports as per required; f) Prepare a final report upon completion of the consultancy, including recommendations and lessons learnt. 3) Support to the Sports for Development Unit: Coordinate the administrative and programme activities related to the Sports for Development Unit. Fee: R$ 7,500.00 (monthly) Duration: 11 months Start Date: Imediately Duty Sation: Brasília - DF Deliverables: Due Date: By the end of every month from start date Description: Monthly deliver of progress report (10 reports) Due Date: By the end of the last month Description: Deliver final report (month 11th) Due Date: When required Description: Evaluation reports of the My Trainer is Top Notch Project” and “My Team is Top Notch Project” Qualification: Education: First university degree in International Relations, International Development, Sport Management, Sports Marketing or other related disciplines is required. Experience required and competencies a) 2-3 years of work experience in managing projects with international cooperation for the promotion of children and adolescents’ rights, preferably in the professional Sports industry or in Sports for Development program; b) Experience in coordinating complex partnerships and different actors of different sectors; c) Excellent communication, negotiating and organizing skills; d) Fluency in Portuguese and English (oral and written). Fluency in Spanish language is a desirable asset; e) Excellent ability to work with different teams, demonstrate initiative, and with a result-oriented approach; f) Understanding data analysis and some experience with field research, focusing monitoring and evaluation; g) Excellent capacity to manage deadlines, often on short notice; h) Excellent ability to build alliances with strategic thinking and networking skills; i) Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills; j) Computer skills, including internet navigation and various office applications; k) Experience with the UN System will be considered an asset.
