1 Sport for Social Change International Week November, 2009 – São Paulo, Brasil Sport for Social Change In 2007 Nike supported the creation of a global movement: the Sport for Social Change Network – SSCN, that in Brazil is named REMS – Rede Esporte pela Mudança Social. The movement gathers 30 non-profit organizations in Brazil, leaded by UNDP – United Nations Development Program. Those NGOs are from all over the country, although mostly from Rio and São Paulo. All of them believe in the power of sports to change lives. Most of them run sport for change programs. All of them work direcltly with excluded youth and youth related themes. In Southern Africa and Eastern Africa, the same movement is alive. The SPORT FOR SOCIAL CHANGE INTERNATIONAL WEEK was the first global meeting of those groups, after they started to work. It was also the first time to show up to an open audience with innovation and sustainability ideas around sports. 3 THE EVENT One week, one city: thinking about sport for social change 4 continents represented through sport for change initiatives SSCN meeting on governance issues Open meeting to build a common agenda of sport for change Inspiring lecture with Auma Obama 11 Presentations and Panels around sport for change programs and new ideas Marketplace with +10 initiatives for Social inclusion through sports productive chain 4 sport for change workshops, with SSCN methodologies/members UNDP and J.Leiva workshops on the Human Development Index Report, through the lens of sports and on tax benefits for sports programs Manifesto launched, by Athletes and former athletes 4 AGENDA 5 OVERVIEW Launching Presentations Methodologies Workshops Marketplace Manifesto SSCN Meeting Outcomes Media 6 OVERVIEW Launching Presentations Methodologies Workshops Marketplace Manifesto SSCN Meeting Outcomes Media 7 LAUNCHING Auma Obama, SSCN Convener for Eastern Africa - “Sport for Social Change” 8 LAUNCHING +250 attended to the launching. 9 LAUNCHING Sesc Representative, João Leiva (JLeiva director), Juliana Antunes (Unilever) Ana Moser (former Olympic athlete), Auma Obama (SSCN convener for East Africa), UNDP Representative, Ziba Cranmer, TIago Pinto and Andrew Ogilvie, Nike Directors 10 OVERVIEW Launching Presentations Methodologies Workshops Marketplace Manifesto SSCN Meeting Outcomes Media 11 SPORT FOR CHANGE WORKSHOPS IEE- Instituto Esporte Educação 12 SPORT FOR CHANGE WORKSHOPS IEE- Instituto Esporte Educação 13 SPORT FOR CHANGE WORKSHOPS IEE- Instituto Esporte Educação (Methodologies for Sports Instructors) 14 SPORT FOR CHANGE WORKSHOPS EPROCAD – Street Futebol Curriculum 15 SPORT FOR CHANGE WORKSHOPS EPROCAD – Street Futebol Curriculum 16 OVERVIEW Launching Presentations Methodologies Workshops Marketplace Manifesto SSCN Meeting Outcomes Media 17 UNDP – HUMAN DEVELOPMENT INDEX REPORT THROUGH SPORTS Workshop to discuss how sports can impact on human development index 18 UNDP – HUMAN DEVELOPMENT INDEX REPORT THROUGH SPORTS Workshop to discuss how sports can impact on human development index 19 TAX BENEFITS TO SPORTS PROJECTS Didatic workshop on how to apply for the Brazilian Law of tax benefits to sports social programs 20 OVERVIEW Launching Presentations Methodologies Workshops Marketplace Manifesto SSCN Meeting Outcomes Media 21 SUSTAINABLE MARKETPLACE Sport for Change initiatives: Community Surfboards Factory 22 SUSTAINABLE MARKETPLACE Sport for Change initiatives: Community Footwear made from footwear industry waste 23 SUSTAINABLE MARKETPLACE Sport for Change initiatives: Nets made by recycled PET 24 SUSTAINABLE MARKETPLACE Sport for Change initiatives: Skateboards with sustainable wood 25 SUSTAINABLE MARKETPLACE Sport for Change initiatives: Wikimap and SMSport, new technologies + sport for change 26 OVERVIEW Launching Presentations Methodologies Workshops Marketplace Manifesto SSCN Meeting Outcomes Media 27 NETWORKS, INNOVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY Ziba Cranmer, Global Director for Nike Innovation Lab speaks about Networks, Innovation and Sustainability 28 NETWORKS AROUND THE WORLD Paul Caccamo, Up2Us founder (US) and Thomas Adams, SSCN Convener for Southern Africa – Sport for Social Change Global Movement Panel 29 GLOBAL SSCN MOVEMENT Liz Odera SSCN Convener for East Africa and Ricardo Vidal, SSCN Representative for Brasil – Sport for Social Change Global Movement Panel 30 SOCIAL LEGACY FOR SPORTS EVENTS Cameron Sinclair (Architecture for Humanity Founder), Mel Young (Homeless World Cup Founder) and Andrew Ogilvie (Nike Sustainable Business & Innovation Global Director) – Social Legacy and Sustainable facilities for Sports events Panel 31 LEGACY AND SUSTAINABILITY Cameron Sinclair talked about the Architecture for Humanity efforts to rebuild communities through sports and about sustainable sports facilities that help communities to save energy and water, while providing a safe place to play.
