National curriculum guidelines for graduation courses of Nursing, from Education Ministry, guide higher
education institutions, aiming to ensure a quality education. They bring also new concepts for the vocational
training of nurses in a generalist and humanized view.(1) Nursing education seeks to train professionals to
provide health care to human-patient-client, for the realization and improvement of technologies and
procedures that promote health, prevent disease and injury recover; being impossible to cure or recovery,
favoring a dignified death and with as little suffering as possible.(2) Nursing brings the essence of Humanized
care since its inception; the academy learning emphasizes the importance of understanding a look, a gesture,
a touch that are care manifestations. AIM: to reflect on the significance of Nursing in the perception of
academic, front the first contact at graduation. METHODOLOGY: this is a qualitative study, based on
literature in science journals, databases and books about the subject. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: during
the training the students are encouraged to have full performance in the areas of education, seek
understanding the origin and development of human health, ability to deal with their own feelings in order to
be able to administer them forward to situations of hopelessness or weakness by part of patients as in
personal experiences. Is in this context that nursing seeks to develop their own knowledge that characterize it
as science, while maintaining an important articulation with other areas of knowledge.(3) The first academic
contact with graduation generates feelings of doubt, fear and curiosities, face the universe of new knowledge
that are coming: numerous concepts, routines and obligations of professional nursing. FINAL THOUGHTS: To
be a nurse and exercise the nursing work one needs dedication and love for first choice, because at a first
time all is very new, but soon he perceives that f care humanization in the area of health is the essence and
point of consideration, respecting the individualities, which request comprehension of meaning of life, as well
as the ability to perceive and understand himself and to the other, contributing to quality professional-patient
relationship, making a difference in the practice of nursing.
