Rules of Procedure
Article 1
Definition
This regulation defines the rules of procedure for the II AstraZeneca Foundation
Competition, taking place during the V In4Med, from the 19th to 21st February 2016. The
aim of this competition is the promotion of Health Sciences research conducted by
medical students.
Article 2
Themes
1. Research projects and actual work in the field of Health Sciences may be
submitted if within the following two topics:
a. Fundamental research – investigation and analysis focused on a better or
fuller understanding of a subject, phenomenon, or behaviour instead of
on a specific practical application of the results;
b. Translational research – perceived as research that transforms scientific
discoveries arising in the laboratory, clinical or populational studies, into
new clinical tools and applications.
Article 3
Goals
1. To promote the involvement of medical students in research projects.
2. To stimulate interest in Health Sciences research within the student community.
3. To encourage the interest of the student community and their involvement in
similar projects.

Article 4
ParticipationTerms
1. The II AstraZeneca Foundation Competition will accept the participation of
medical students:
a. who are currently involved in research projects in the field of Health
Sciences;
b. who have Research Project proposals in the field of Health Sciences.
2. Each applicant is entitled to submit no more than one abstract.
3. The applicants cannot submit scientific literature reviews.
4. All abstracts must be submitted in English.
Article 5
Competition conditions
1. The submitted abstracts will be evaluated by a qualified jury and only the best 40
(20 abstracts for each topic) will be admitted to the competition.
2. The three best abstracts of each theme will be selected for Oral Communication
(see Article 8) and the remaining ones will be presented as Poster (see Articles
9 and 10).
a. Except in cases of force majeure, the results will be announced from the
18th of January, 2016;
i. Participants will be informed if, and when, excepcional events that
lead to changes occur;
b. Participants will have 3 days after the announcement to confirm
participation in the contest;
i. If there is no response within the specified date for reply, the
participant loses the opportunity to compete in the II AstraZeneca
Foundation Competition.
3. The best Oral Communication of each theme will be awarded.
4. The best Poster of each theme will be awarded.

Article 6
Registration
1. The applicant should:
a. Enroll in the II AstraZeneca Foundation Competition using the form
available on www.nemaac.net.
b. Enroll in the V In4Med using the form available on www.nemaac.net.
i. The participants of the II AstraZeneca Foundation Competition will
have a discount of € 5.00 on the V In4Med final ticket.
c. Fill in and submit:
i. Abstract of the research project according to the conditions of
Article 7;
ii. Term of Responsibility (commitment to comply with the rules set
out in this Regulation);
iii. Declaration(s) of Conflicting Interests that may exist;
iv. Informed consent declaration (to be completed by potential
partners in the Research Project).
d. The documents referred to in paragraph c, with the exception of the
project abstract, are available on www.nemaac.net, under the heading
"Attached Documents";
e. In order to complete the registration, the documents must be sent to the

Article 7
Abstract
1. Format:
a. Maximum number of words: 250;
b. Font: Arial;
c. Font size: 11;
d. It should be structured in sections: Introduction; Goals; Materials and
methods; Results and discussion; Conclusion; References.
2. Language: English.
3. Abstracts Evaluation criteria:

a. Originality of the investigation;
b. Content quality;
c. Clarity and correction
4. The applicant should choose one of the two topics in competition, which can be
confirmed or contradicted by the jury.
5. The abstract should be submitted to [email protected]
6. The abstract should be submitted until December 14th, 2015.
7. Failure to comply with these rules will lead to penalties and possible exclusion of
the participant.
Article 8
Oral communication
1. File Format: Powerpoint (.ppt).
2. Language: English.
3. Duration:
a. 7 minutes for presentation;
b. 3 minutes for discussion;
c. Overtime will lead to the participant's penalty.
4. Criteria for evaluating the overall presentation:
a. Aesthetics of the presentation;
b. Content quality;
c. Transparency and simplicity of the presentation;
d. Compliance with the stipulated time;
e. Participant’s capacity to discuss and answer any questions that may
arise.
5. The file must be submitted to [email protected];
6. The file must be submitted until February 15th, 2016.

Article 9
Poster
1. File Format: PDF (.pdf) (maximum file size: 25 Mb)
2. Format:
a. The abstract should not appear in the poster;
b. Size: A1;
c. The poster's content must be readable in A4 printing size (to send to jury);
d. Aesthetically pleasing (color and adequate contrast);
e. Images / graphics must be relevant for understanding the content;
f.
Tables / graphics / images properly labeled;
g. Mandatory bibliography.
3. Language: English.
4. Criteria for poster evaluation:
a. Presentation of the background and relevance of the project;
b. Presentation and organization of data / results / activities;
c. Interpretation of data / results / activities;
d. Project implications;
e. Originality of the project;
f.
Organization and visual presentation of the poster.
5. The participant has the responsability of ensuring the printing and display of the
poster.
6. The poster must be submitted in digital format to [email protected].
7. The poster must be submitted in digital format until February 15th, 2016.
8. Failure to comply with these rules will lead to penalties and possible exclusion of
the participant.
Article 10
Presentation of posters
1. Duration:
a. 3 minutes for presentation;
b. 2 minutes for discussion;
c. Overtime will lead to the participant's penalty.

3. Presentation criteria:

e. Participant’s capacity to discuss and answer any questions that may
arise.
Article 11
Jury
1. The President of the Jury will be invited by the organizing committee of the V
In4med;
a. The President of the Jury will select the remaining members of the jury.
2. A Specific jury panel for each theme will be announced on the website of V
In4Med.
3. It lies within the Jury’s competence to:
a. Select and rank the applications according to the aforementioned criteria;
b. Discuss and evaluate the participant’s presentation during the
competition according to the aforementioned criteria;
c. Choose the winning projects.
Article 12
Awards and winners
1. Based on the previously defined criteria (see Articles 8, 9 and 10), the Jury will
award the:
a. Best Oral Communication of each theme;
b. Best Poster of each theme.
2. The monetary prizes will be awarded by the AstraZeneca Foundation to the
institution / team where the winner’s project is being or will be developed.
3. Honorable mentions will be given if the jury deems appropriate.
4. A Participation Certificate will be awarded to all participants.

5. The winners will be announced at the V In4Med Closing Ceremony.
a. In order to receive the prize, the winners must be present at the V In4Med
Closing Ceremony.
b. If unable to attend the Closing Ceremony, the winners shall:
i. Justify their absence to the Organizing Committee;
ii. Designate a representative person to receive the prize/awards.
Article 13
Omitted points
The Organizing Committee of the V In4Med reserves to itself the power to decide
on all missing situations in this Regulation.
