Regarding the Official Letter CVM/SEP/GEA-2/Nº 548/2010, transcribed at the end of this
document, we clarify and announce that the statements to which you refer correspond to a mere
preliminary estimate of the performance to be achieved by the Company and Nova Casas Bahia
S.A. based on public information, including those concerning sales estimates.
These estimates can be seen in the public announcements previously disclosed to the market,
especially (i) referring to the association between Globex and Nova Casas Bahia S.A., on the
occasion of publication of the appraisal reports on which the operation was based (on October
24, 2010), (ii) at the public presentations of Grupo Pão de Açúcar known as “GPA Day” (on
May 12, 2010) and “O Negócio Eletro” (“The Eletro Business”) (on September 9, 2010) and
(iii) in Globex’s Financial Statements for 4Q09 (on March 3, 2010) and 3Q10 (on November
10, 2010).

Dear Mr. Officer,
We hereby refer to Mr. Michael Klein‟s interview to the newspaper O Globo, on
December 29, 2010, under the heading:
O Globo – Economy
“Casas Bahia gives second wind to Ponto Frio”

MICHAEL KLEIN: Nova Casas Bahia should close December with sales
10% higher than last year‟s, above the 7% initial estimate. At Ponto Frio,
sales may increase by 20% compared to 2009. The retail chain hired a
thousand salespeople in this year alone. This is a reflection of Casas
Bahia‟s management on Ponto Frio.

KLEIN: to many people‟s surprise, Casas Bahia's (delinquency rate) has
decreased. Last year, it ranged from 9% to 10%. Currently, it is below 8%.
People are paying their debts on time.”
We have not identified in the „Material Fact‟ or „Notice to Market‟ categories of
the IPE system any file containing the information disclosed, nor is this information
contained the Press Release sent to the „Economic-Financial Data‟ category by the
Company on November 11, 2010.
Therefore, you should provide clarifications about said news article through the
IPE System, in the „Notice to Market' category, in item „Clarifications on the
CVM/BOVESPA Inquiry‟, within 24 hours of becoming aware of the terms in this
Official letter, which is also being sent by fax. If necessary, you should also inquire
people who have access to material acts and facts to investigate if there is any
information not properly disclosed to the market, as set forth in Article 3, paragraph 1
of CVM Rule 358/2002.
Pursuant to Article 2 of the aforementioned CVM Rule, the Company‟s
management is responsible “a priori” for evaluating the materiality of the issue. In
addition, the failure to comply with the provisions thereto is a serious infringement,
pursuant to Article 18 of said Rule, for the purposes set forth in Article 11, paragraph 3
of Law 6.385/1976.
We warn you that, pursuant to Article 9, item II and Article 7 of Law 6.385/1976,
in combination with Article 9 of CVM Rule 452/2007, the Company Relations
Superintendent is responsible for determining the imposition of a punitive fine in the
amount of one thousand reais (R$1,000.00), without prejudice to other administrative
sanctions, for the failure to comply with the requirements contained herein, within 24
hours of becoming aware of the terms in this Official Letter, which is also being sent by
fax.
