Sculptor João Duarte distinguished by the American Numismatic Society
The INCM would like to congratulate the sculptor João Duarte for winning the J.
Sanford Saltus Award for Distinguished Achievement in the Art of the Medal, in
November this year. This is a distinction given by the American Numismatic
Society aimed at awarding those artists whose work stands out, on a worldwide
level, in the field of contemporary medal making.
The prize giving ceremony for this sought-after award will take place during the
XXXII Art Medal Congress of the FIDEM (Fédération Internationale de la Médaille
d’Art), to be held in Glasgow between the 10th and 14th of July, 2012.
It should also be emphasised that in August of this year the sculptor João Duarte,
creator of various coins and medals produced by the INCM, was invited by the
British Art Medal Society of the British Museum in London to create their 2012
medal.
