Much/Many
Much significa muito, muita e é usado com uncontable
nouns (substantivos incontáveis).
Ex.: There isn’t much coffee in the coffee pot.
We didn’t spend much money.
Many significa muitos, muitas e é usado com countable
nouns (substantivos contáveis).
Ex.: I don’t have many dollars in my wallet.
Do you have many friends?
Usamos much e many principalmente em orações negativas e
interrogativas.
Little/Few
Little significa pouco, pouca e é usado com uncontable
nouns (substantivos incontáveis).
Ex.: There is little coffee in the coffee pot.
We spent little money.
Few significa poucos, poucas e é usado com countable
nouns (substantivos contáveis).
Ex.: I have few dollars in my wallet.
I have few friends.
Geralmente usamos very antes de little e few.
Ex.: There’s very little time.
He has very few friends.
A Little/A Few
A little significa um pouco de, alguma coisa e é usado
com uncontable nouns (substantivos incontáveis).
Ex.: Let’s have some coffee. We still have a little time.
A few significa alguns, algumas e é usado com countable
nouns (substantivos contáveis).
Ex.: I saw Tom a few days ago.
A diferença é que Little/Few têm conotação negativa ou de
restrição.
A Great Deal of/A Large Number of
A great deal of significa muito ou muita e é usado com
uncontable nouns (substantivos incontáveis).
Ex.: Wow! We have a great deal of homework for tomorrow.
A large number of significa muitos ou muitas e é usado com
countable nouns (substantivos contáveis).
Ex.: A large number of policemen were looking for the suspect.
A lot of / Lots of / Plenty of
A lot of , lots of, plenty of significam muito, muitos, muita,
muitas, são mais comumente usados em orações afirmativas.
Todos podem ser usados com substantivos contáveis ou
incontáveis.
Ex.: We don’t have to hurry. We still have plenty of time.
A lot of passengers were waiting for the plane.
Lots of people will be at the parade tomorrow.
