Com apenas quatro anos de existência, o
atelier Artéria trouxe já ideias e projectos
que estão a contribuir para uma arquitectura
mais participativa na cidade de Lisboa. As
principais responsáveis são Lucinda Correia e
Ana Jara, duas das fundadoras do estúdio.

With just four years of history behind it, the
Artéria atelier has already delivered ideas
and projects that are making a contribution
to a more participative approach to
architecture in the city of Lisbon. Credit for
this is mainly due to Lucinda Correia and Ana
Jara, two of the founders of this studio.

Não estamos perante o típico atelier de
arquitectura: se, por um lado, são uma dupla
no feminino, algo pouco comum nesta área,
por outro a maioria dos seus projectos não se
colam com o que associamos a um tradicional
projecto de arquitectura.
Na sua prática, procuram envolver sempre
inúmeras áreas e trabalham maioritariamente
em ideias auto-propostas, com um forte
cariz social e que surgem da observação dos
problemas existentes na cidade, para os quais
os projectos arquitectónicos podem ter um
papel determinante. Exemplos são ‘Agulha
num Palheiro’ onde, numa plataforma online,
fazem um mapeamento de imóveis para
reabilitar em Lisboa; ou o edifício ‘Manifesto
na Mouraria’ em que transformaram “o
processo de obra num Manifesto pela
Reabilitação Urbana.”
We’re not talking about a typical architecture
practice: while on the one hand a female
partnership might be unusual in this area, on
the other hand, most of their projects don’t
quite fit with what we normally associate with
a traditional architectural project.
Through their practice, they consistently
seek to involve a multitude of areas and work
mainly with self-proposed ideas with a clear
social character, arising from the observation
of problems that exist in the city and which
architectural projects can play a crucial role in
solving. Examples are
‘Agulha num Palheiro’ (needle in a haystack)
where, on an online platform they map
buildings requiring renovation in Lisbon;
or the building ‘Manifesto na Mouraria’
through which they have transformed “the
work process into a Manifesto for Urban
Renovation.”

Em 2014 foram convidadas a integrar
a participação portuguesa na 14ª Bienal
de Arquitectura de Veneza. Para tal,
desenvolveram teoricamente um projecto
intitulado ‘Lisbon Skyline Operation (LSO)’,
subordinado ao tema maior da reabilitação
de Lisboa, para ser publicado em várias
fases no jornal ‘Homeland - News from
Portugal.’ Com dois projectos-piloto já em
desenvolvimento, o LSO visa colmatar a
falta de recursos de muitos condomínios do
centro da capital portuguesa, promovendo
a reabilitação das suas coberturas por uma
entidade exterior. Com o pressuposto de
reabilitar para rentabilizar, esta pode ser a
solução para o buraco financeiro de muitos
condomínios e trazer um novo skyline ao
centro lisboeta. ::
In 2014 they were invited to join the
Portuguese representation at the 14th Biennial
of Architecture in Venice. For this, they
developed a theoretic project called ‘Lisbon
Skyline Operation (LSO)’, dedicated to the
broader theme of renovation of buildings
in Lisbon, which is due to be published in
different stages in the news journal ‘Homeland
- News from Portugal.’ With two pilot projects
already being developed, LSO seeks to
address the lack of funds experienced by
many residents’ associations in central Lisbon,
thus promoting the renovation of their roofs
by an external entity. With the premise of
renovating in order to promote profitability,
this might just prove to be the solution for
the financial void faced by so many residents’
associations and bring a renewed skyline to
the centre of Lisbon. ::
