UNIVERSIDADE ESTADUAL DO CENTRO-OESTE/UNICENTRO Pró-Reitoria de Pesquisa e Pós-Graduação - PROPESP Programa de Pós-Graduação em História - PPGH GRADUATE PROGRAM IN HISTORY, AND REGIONS Call for Admissions Nr. 15/2013 – PPGH/UNICENTRO Call for Admissions for NON-BRAZILIAN REGULAR GRADUATE STUDENTS TO THE MASTER DEGREE IN HISTORY – BEGINNING OF CLASSES MARCH 2014 The Collegiate of the Graduate Program – Master Degree in History, and Regions of the Universidade Estadual do Centro-Oeste – UNICENTRO, in the use of their legal powers, makes public the admission period for the applications to the selection process of non-Brazilian Graduate students, according to the present call for admissions, and its annexes: Area: History, and Regions The concentration area “History and Regions” congregates investigations with narratives that highlight concepts, uses and meanings of “regions” and its constituent elements. Although “region” allows for many interpretations, here it is taken in the plural to characterize a historiographical notion that comprehends force fields of diverse intensities, sometimes converging sometimes conflicting, as constituent of social and symbolic practices that make sense of subjects, their identities, otherness and relations to the environment, in multiple temporalities. History is understood as problem-history, and region as an element that stretches beyond the character of a simple scenario, support or delimitation, configuring itself, therefore, as essential as characteristic of the historian object. Space presents itself as the element of a language that defines the fundamental relations established by men and women in time, and region is conceived as a human invention that contains historicity, as an object in permanent construction and de-construction. In this perspective, to study region means to contemplate analysis of the regimes of spatiality, structural and episodic factors, which are their components and produce their singularities. Research filed: Sociocultural practices, and power relations Studies about narratives that highlight concepts, uses and meanings of “regions” and its components historically constituted by means of religions, political, economic, literary, artistic, scientific and non-scientific practices, congregating investigations about the sociocultural practices of traditional peoples (indigenous groups, quilombolas (descendants of black slaves), faxinalenses (people from common lands), and others, of the ethnicities, identifications, power relations in their daily lives, and in practices related to questions of gender, education and social control. Regions can configurate the axle of the temporal analysis of historical phenomena that are evident in symbolic, daily practices and strategies that make existence possible. To understand regions this way implies to confront the scientific knowledge, that elaborates monographic analysis, with the narratives of non-scientific cultures that produce analysis and meaning registered in various supports. The idea is to understand the several forms of historically conceiving the tensions between the sociocultural practices and the power relations in the constitution of notions of region, in themes such as continent, nation, city, house, fields, common lands (faxinais), frontiers, dominions defined by the State, religiosities, traditions, populations, occupation and exploitation of territories, the social movements, the typification of ethnic groups, the body, the relations between humans and the natural world, the texts as fabrications of material and imaginary spaces.
