SmartPack LLP Comenius Bilateral Partnership 2013-2015 1st Exchange: Aveiro! 2014 Introduction We will use SmartPack Project to introduce you all to the place where we will receive you: the city of Aveiro! Aveiro is the place where the arts, the culture, the environment and innovation intersect. It is with great pleasure that we give you milestones of this beautiful city. Hopefully, you will be even more willing to learn a little about our city, our country and our culture! Brief History Of Aveiro There’s evidence that proves the existence of this region in the Neolithic period, evidenced by the existence of Tumuli and Dolmens existing here. The oldest and most known activities of Aveiro are based on salt production and naval trade. The first reference to the town of Aveiro appears only in 959 (ag) , a reference of the Testament of Countess Mumadona Dias. In Aveiro, visitors are not only amazed by the present, but also with the testimony of its history. In this beautiful city we have the Princess Santa Joana Museum, the Home-Museum of Egas Moniz, the Museum of Troncalhada, the Carmelites Church, temple belonging to a former convent, built in the 17th century; the Sé Cathedral, which dates back to the 15th century and the Santo André Museum-Ship.
