1st Exchange: Aveiro!
2014
Introduction
We will use SmartPack Project to introduce you all to the
place where we will receive you: the city of Aveiro!
Aveiro is the place where the arts, the culture, the
environment and innovation intersect.
It is with great pleasure that we give you milestones of this
beautiful city.
Hopefully, you will be even more willing to learn a little
about our city, our country and our culture!
Brief History Of Aveiro
There’s evidence that proves the existence of this
region in the Neolithic period, evidenced by the
existence of Tumuli and Dolmens existing here.
The oldest and most known activities of Aveiro are
based on salt production and naval trade.
The first reference to the town of Aveiro appears only
in 959 (ag) , a reference of the Testament of Countess
Mumadona Dias.
In Aveiro, visitors are not only amazed by the present, but
also with the testimony of its history. In this beautiful city we
have the Princess Santa Joana Museum, the Home-Museum of
Egas Moniz, the Museum of Troncalhada, the Carmelites Church,
temple belonging to a former convent, built in the 17th century;
the Sé Cathedral, which dates back to the 15th century and the
Santo André Museum-Ship.

The region of Aveiro is rich in culture, art and
animation. There are many joyful and lively parties
and festivities throughout the year. The Highlight is
the traditional festival of São Gonçalinho, the March
fair, more than 500 years old.
Aveiro assumes itself increasingly as a cultural hub of
great dynamism, with many associations and
initiatives.

Entertainment
Aveiro is filled with places where we can do a variety
of things, such as sightseeing, observing, practising
sports, shopping and going to the movies.
During the day we can observe a busy city, but it is at
night that everything comes to lifewith color, brightness
and music.
In Aveiro, the nights and streets are lively and full of
life. There is always a bar that is open so one can have
coffee and be with friends, socialize.
