The goal is to check the career anchors of tutors
and health professionals who took the course:
"Sickle Cell Disease: Line Care in
Primary Health Care".
Career Anchors
The career anchors indicate the importance of the
area which the professional does not give up.
It includes the self-perceptions that people have
about work:
- Talents and skills
- Motives and needs
- Attitudes and values
(Schein, 1993)

Educational strategies have potential to transform health
care, since they allow to improve the performance of
technical and social professionals.
Distance Education
Dropout Rate:
Greater than 30% are considered high.

It is a multifactorial phenomenon:
Combination of student characteristics and life
circumstances.

Found reasons for dropout in
distance education courses
 Prioritization of other professional activities;
 Interest only in knowing the characteristics of the ODL
environment;
 Lack of prerequisites needed to follow the course;
 Health problems;
 Technical problems of access;
 Lack of time to study and attend the course;
 Lack of academic support;
 Lack of adaptation to the methodology / technology;
 Work overload.

The career anchor dedication to a cause has
expressiveness among the surveyed professionals.
It refers to the use of interpersonal skills and help in
serving others, important attitudes to deal with
people who have sickle cell disease work.
Conclusion
Patients belong to the poorer sections of the
population, and so many are dependent on the
public system.
So, the training of health professionals prove to
be crucial for them to develop their potential
related to working with sickle cell disease.
