PORTUGAL THE "DESTINATION OF CHOICE"
FOR AMERICAN EXPRESS CARDMEMBERS
Following the success of last year's campaign, American Express decided to
promote Portugal to local and worldwide American Express cardholders by
renewing the "Experience Portugal" campaign through the end of September.
Under the theme "Portugal, A World of Experiences with American Express", the
campaign promotes the country as a tourist destination of excellence.
Last year’s "Experience Portugal" campaign reached millions of consumers,
generating an 11% increase in the number of international transactions during
the three-month campaign period, with hundreds of thousands of transactions. In
terms of transaction value, Portugal registered an increase of 7% over the
previous year. Transactions with American Express cards issued outside the
country already accounted for more than half of the total spend and 28% of
transactions.
With this new campaign American Express cardholders will be able to enjoy more
than 350 advantages on the mainland, in Madeira and the Azores, including
hotels, restaurants, shops, entertainment, car rentals, sports, and leisure
venues, among others. Discounts (and other benefits) can reach 40%.
American Express invites customers to visit Portugal, one of more than 20
countries where it has presence through its local network, including the UK,
Spain, the US, Brazil, Russia, Poland, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway,
Slovakia, Venezuela and Saudi Arabia.
"The fact that American Express has once again chosen Portugal as a preferred
destination this summer is reason for us to be proud, and it demonstrates not
only the unique tourism offer that our country has but also the great acceptance
that this brand has in Portugal," said Rita Lourenço, Head of Cards and Payment
Services at Millennium bcp, which has represented American Express in Portugal
since 1995. "In essence, with this campaign we intend to attract international
customers to enjoy what Portugal and our national partners have to offer."
Among the participating brands in 2015 are the Pestana Hotel Group, Sana
Hotels, Porto Bay Group, Heritage Hotels, Solares de Portugal, Bussaco Palace
Hotel, Vidago Palace, Guess, Furla, Loja das Meias, Marc Jacobs, Christofle, the
Stock Exchange Palace, Burberry, Douro Azul, Etxart & Panno, Pousadas de
Portugal, Auto Jardim, BCBG Max Azria, Timberland, Dara Jewels, Caves Calém
and Caves Burmester, LisbonLovers, Tod's, restaurants Eleven, BB Gourmet, Casa
da Dízima, Villa Caffé-Ristorante Bar, Pepper's Steakhouse, the Casa da Música or
sport and leisure sites such as the Algarve’s International Autodrome.
