With the captured by the lens of the camera, Laura has a "silence desired," an inner space where the artistic is recognized. Ana Laura Contreras born in San Jose, Costa Rica in October 1981. Live in Managua, Nicaragua. Studied advertisement but photography is my passion. Is the way I get to live and experience life. Those moments where everything else vanishes and the objects in front of the lens catches up all your attention. The only thing that matters in life -for those moments- is to capture that. In them lies my worshipped silence, my inner peace. a n a l a u r a . c o n tr e r a s @g m a i l . c o m CLEMENTE PADIN Homage to Wlademir Dias-Pino, 2007 d i g i t a l p o e t ry Clemente Padin was born in Lascano, Rocha, Uruguay (1939). [email protected] A doll’s house is..., by Henry Gwiazda HENRY GWIAZDA A doll’s house is..., 2007 web art; http://www.henrygwiazda.com a doll's house is...... is a work which explores the artistic connection between movement that occurs in an apartment building, other units in that building and the exterior world. It shows that each motion, whether it is made by human, animal, object, light or sound, is connected and extended by other motions to compose a phrase, a sentence of great artistic interest. For example, a man is exercising in his apartment. As he makes one gesture, another gesture is made in an apartment next to his-which is connected to a light which gets turned on in another part of the building-which is connected to a sound which occurs somewhere else. Each movement by itself is meaningless, boring, cliched. But seen as one component of a larger artistic phenomenon, it becomes important, meaningful. Henry Gwiazda is a composer/new media artist. Since 1986, he has worked with sampling and sound effects to create a unique musical language that is derived from the interior musical characteristics of noise itself. In 1992 he turned his attention to virtual audio and created two works for immersive technologies. In 1995, he extended his interest of sampling natural sounds to include a sampling of all phenomenon that has movement: a comprehensive artistic approach that has resulted in work that is multimedia in nature. These new works make use of new media to create a virtual realism that is focussed on movement. The cycle between human beings and the natural world has been transformed into a new formation that inspires intricate modes of transmitting and receiving information. Through the development of modern technologies human beings have begun to unfold the possibilities of telematic and cybernetic systems of communication. Earth is no longer a simple exchange of biological entities, but a more complex system that employs digital signal to mediate our existence within it. Human beings, technology, and nature are now all part of a congruous system of existence that is becoming more and more visible in our landscape. Formatting Gaia depicts this world, where there is a physical connection between the three and all work in unison with one another." Patrick Millard is an artist who originated from the small Western Michigan town of Lamont and is now living in Savannah, GA. Working in photography, painting, mixed media, and installation has resulted in a diversified portfolio of work that tends to address ideas about society, culture, and the interactions that human beings have within their own synthetic environment. His work has been exhibited both locally and nationally and continues to gain recognition. Recent collaborative art exhibitions/installations include the international art happening 'Blow the City' in Ghent, Belgium as well as 'A Million Little Pictures' at Art House in Decatur, GA. He is currently pursuing his MFA degree in photography at the Savannah College of Art and Design. So I started talking pictures of it, photographing myself while performing in front of a camera on a tripod. Up to today there is something that moves me when I see the images. They have an existential quality to them that fits to my understanding of art. Art not only has to create beautiful aesthetics, first of all it start with a quandary - a search for images that are significant for the contemporary, ever changing world we live in." Richard Jochum is a Visiting Scholar and Artist in Residence at Columbia University. He works as a media artist since the late 1990s setting up exhibitions all over the world. Being an Austrian citizen Richard received his MA in philosophy from the University of Innsbruck, and his PhD from the University of Vienna dealing with strategies of coping with complexity in contemporary philosophy. He got his MFA in sculpture and media art from the University of Applied Arts in Vienna before he moved first to Berlin and later to New York. Richard's art practice is accompanied by lectures in the field of contemporary art practice and cultural theory. He has been awarded several grants and prizes. One of his most recent installation - an oversized prayer necklace as a communal sculpture is exhibited on the roof top of the American University in Cairo, March - 2007.
