The Summer Course featuring English for Law and an Introduction to the English
Legal System comprises of two modules (which are independent of each other):
1) English for Law, is a course on legal English designed to teach basic
English Legal terminology (“first module”);
2) Introduction to the English Legal System, incorporating the fundamentals
of the English Legal System (“second module”).
The first and second modules, being independent of each other, can also be attended
individually.
Subjects
The subjects which will be covered:
1) the first module will include the English Legal System, European Union Law,
Finance Law, Trusts, Criminal Law, Property Law, Commercial Law and
Intellectual Property,
2) the second module will include Contract Law, Property and Conveyancing,
Trusts, Criminal Law and Procedure, Civil Procedure, Company Law and Tax
Law.
Location
Both modules will be held in London at the Law Society of England and Wales at
100-113 Chancery Lane, London, WC2A.
Dates and times
The first module of the Course will be held from Monday 15th July 2013 to Friday
19th July 2013, 9:00am -12:45pm, and comprises of fifteen hours' teaching.
The second module of the Course will be held from Monday 22nd July 2013 to
Friday 26th July 2013, 9:00am – 14.45pm, and comprises of twenty hours'
teaching.

Teachers and Lecturers
The teachers of the first module of the Course are qualified English teachers whom
also have legal training and experience; while the lecturers for the second module
of the Course are solicitors, barristers, university professors, chartered accountants
and public notaries.
Language
Both modules of the Course will be delivered in the English language. Both Courses
will be taught expecting attendees to have an intermediate level of knowledge of the
English language.
Who is the course aimed at?
The Course, which will have an essentially practical dimension, is aimed at lawyers,
Notaries, Chartered Accountants, trainee lawyers, law students and graduates who
are keen to acquire an understanding of legal terminology, and a foundational
knowledge of the English legal system.
Attendance Certificate
At the end of the course the participants will be given a certificate of attendance.
Attendance fee
The attendance fee for
- the first module of the Course (English for Law, 15th -19th July 2013) is £650
(six hundred and fifty) GBP plus VAT
while the fee for the attending
- the second module of the Course (Introduction to the English Legal System,
22nd- 26th July 2013) is £950 (nine hundred and fifty) GBP plus VAT.
The attendance fee includes registration costs, attending the module (s) of your
choice and all materials provided by the teachers and lecturers which will be
distributed at the beginning of the course (s).
Guided Tour of Legal London
A guided tour (on foot) of Legal London is included in the attendance fee for each
module.
The Tour Guide will be Mrs. Joanne Lee, who is by profession a Solicitor and at the
same time a Certified Tourist Guide (Blue Badge London Tourist Guide). Mrs. Lee
specialises in these types of guided tours (for further information one can visit the
website www.discovering-legal-london.com).
The tours, named “Heart of Legal London Walk” will take place on the following
days:
-Wednesday 17th July 2013 from 1:30pm to 3:30pm and
-Wednesday 24th July 2013 from 3:00pm to 5.00pm.
These tours will last around two hours and will include visits to the Inns of Court and
the Royal Courts of Justice amongst other places. The maximum number of
participants for each guided tour is 25. Should there be a greater number of
participants interested, further tours will be added.
Mooting (Mock Criminal Trial)
A Moot (mock criminal trial) will be organised during the second module of the
Course (22nd-26th July 2013), in which participants, guided by Barristers with specific
experience in the area of Criminal Law, will be able to take on the roles on different
parties involved in a trial.
Registration
Registration for one or both modules of the Course can be done either on-line
(www.sligeducation.com) or by sending the application form in by 25th May
2013, as indicated on the form itself.
On the form it will be possible to indicate whether you wish to attend just one
module or both the course modules.
After sending in the request, the applicant will receive confirmation of registration
with the necessary information for the transfer of the attendance fee. Failed payment
will lead to the cancellation of the registration.
Participants who complete their registration by the 30th March 2013 will be offered
a 10% discount on the attendance fee.
