Prof.Maria Manuela Beirão Catarino Erasmus Coordinator Preparing your departure First of all, the home institution has to provide us with the nomination of incoming students selected to study at the Faculty of Pharmacy. The Faculty of Pharmacy only accepts the number of students referred in the Erasmus agreement Application Form After the nomination students will receive and email with the instructions. Before sending the application documents, discuss the programme you want to take in the Faculty of Pharmacy with the Coordinator of your University. Then contact the Erasmus Office to be sure that you can take that programme you have chosen. Your University should send the following documents: Application Form Learning Agreement or Training Agreement Copy of your Transcript of Academic Records Copy of your Passport or Personal identity card Deadlines First Semester and Full Year: end of June Second Semester: end of June Required Language Skills Theoretical courses are taught in Portuguese. Health and Insurance European Students only need the European Insurance Card. Students may also wish to take out additional insurance to cover liability and personal belongings during their stay in Lisboa. The Faculty of Pharmacy will not be held responsible for the loss of personal belongings. Visa and residence permit Students who are nationals of any country of EU/EEA are not required to get a visa or residence permit to enter Portugal. Students who stay more than 3 months have to contact the Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras (Foreigners and Borders Service) to obtain a student residence card called "Cartão de Residência para Cidadão Comunitário". Concerning private accommodation students have to book a place by their own. Modules are offered during each semester and examination periods take place at the end of each semester. Holidays Christmas: from the middle of December until the beginning of January Carnival: about one week Easter: about one week Portuguese Language Courses The Department of Portuguese Language and Culture at the Faculty of Letters organizes Portuguese Language courses at two learning levels: elementary and intermediate. There is a general course which takes place in September and two normal courses. The first one runs from October until the end of January. The second course begins in March and ends in June. The courses are free of charge for Erasmus students. Places for students who make Laboratory Training and Hospital Practice are not guaranteed. Practical Information Arrival and getting around within Lisbon Lisbon Airport is located almost in the centre of the city. The fastest way to reach the city centre is by taxi. You can also take the AeroBus or AeroShuttle bus services, which run between the airport and the city centre. The buses run every 20 or 30 minutes and stop at important points in the city such as Entrecampos, Campo Pequeno, Saldanha, Picoas, Marquês de Pombal, Avenida da Liberdade, Restauradores, Rossio, Praça do Comércio and Cais do Sodré. There are several bus lines that cover the center of the city as well as the surroundings. The Metro (subway or underground) is the most efficient way to get around, especially to go between downtown and uptown. Many of its stations are decorated with contemporary art. To reach the University Campus, take the Yellow Line of the underground in the Campo Grande direction and drop off at Cidade Universitária station. Health Services Students from countries with reciprocal health agreements Area should bring their European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) This covers the students in case of illness abroad and will entitle you to the same treatment as a Portuguese national. In addition students can benefit from the medical assistance provided by the Health Centre of the UL. Centro de Saúde Escolar da Universidade de Lisboa (University Health Centre) Alameda das Linhas de Torres 68 Sports Facilities The University of Lisbon has a Sports Office which is situated at the Cantina I, near the Faculty of Pharmacy. The Sports Office enables students to spend their free time in an active and healthy way and offers a wide range of recreational and leisure sports activities. The Academia ULness has excellent facilities – a fitness room and another one for musculation and cardio training. The Sports Office also organizes several workshops. http://www.desporto.ul.pt/conteudo/31/Welcome/ Opening a bank account If you wish to open a bank account there is a bank available on Rectorate building (Caixa Geral de Depósitos). You will be able open a student account, which provides you with a cash card. To open a bank account you need: Proof of identity, e.g. passport, visa, residency permit. Written evidence of your registration in the Faculty of Pharmacy or a student’s card. Portuguese Fiscal number. You can get the Fiscal number at: Loja do Cidadão Praça dos Restauradores n.º 17 Timetable: from 8h30 to 19h30 Saturdays: from 9h30 to 15h00. Cost of living The costs will depend on the needs each student has. However the approximate average budget is in the order of € 600 per month. Map of the underground Before Leaving Letter of Confirmation Some universities require a letter confirming the exact duration of the stay at the Faculty of Pharmacy. To get the Letter of Confirmation, please come to the Academic Division a week before leaving Lisbon. Transcript of Academic Records The transcript of Records will be sent to your University by mail.
