A collaboration between MIS and Paço das Artes, Memórias da Obsolescência exhibition presents the universe of video art The Museu da Imagem e do Som (a São Paulo State Secretariat of Culture’s Institution) presents Memórias da Obsolescência (Memories of Obsolence), an exhibition composed by the largest video art collection in the world. This project, accomplished in collaboration with CISMA Produções brings together a set of video works from the collection of Ella Fontanals-‐Cisneros – of the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO) – and will be hosted by Paço das Artes, MIS's sister-‐institution, located in a Modernist building within Cidade Universitária, the University of São Paulo campus. Gathering works by twenty five different artists, most of the Latin American, Memórias da Obsolescência – curated by Jesús Fuenmayor, CIFO's director and chief-‐curator – presents a selection of videos belonging to CIFO, including works by Alexander Apóstol, Cao Fei, Francesca Woodman, Francis Alÿs, Leandro Katz, Magdalena Fernández, Marina Abramović, Miguel Ángel Ríos, Nicolás Robbio, Regina José Galindo, Regina Silveira, Song Dong, William Kentridge and Yoshua Okón, among others. “Video art brings new elements to the debate about today's art-‐making and its development in Brazil and in Latin America deserves to be highlighted in São Paulo's exhibitions schedule. Paço das Artes was chosen to host Memórias da Obsolescência because it is MIS’s 'sister’ institution and a multidisciplinary cultural space promoting cultural actions for training and reflection, as well as encompassing different segments of contemporary art,” MIS's executive director and general curator André Sturm reveals. “Bringing this exhibition to Paço das Artes is important not only because it involves a selection of works from the Cisneros collection, but because it gathers renowned artists within the context of contemporary art that dialogue with video,” Paço das Artes’s technical director and curator Priscila Arantes. Parallel to Memórias da Obsolescência at Paço das Artes, Museu da Imagem e do Som’s auditory will show projections of videos that are part of the CIFO’s collection. Memórias da obsolescência: Projeções will present four different sessions with works by Chantal Akerman, Alexander Apóstol, Yaima Carrazana, Daniel González, David Lamelas, Muntean & Rosenblum, Claudio Perna and Lázaro Saavedra. These shows will occur in the months of November and February. Check their summaries below.
