Africa is a natural market for the Mota-Engil Group given
its presence in Angola for 67 years, a fact that allows
it to have a key brand in this market, Mota-Engil Angola,
one of the countries major builders. The Group’s growing
bet in Angola in other areas of business such as the
environment, logistics and industry is also relevant.
Having begun its far-flung journey of international
expansion on the African continent, Mota-Engil’s activity
is currently very representative in markets such as
Mozambique and Malawi, working in different business
areas and making its presence felt in countries like South
Africa, Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, Zimbabwe,
Zambia and Ghana.
With significant recognition for the portfolio developed
in Africa, Mota-Engil maintains a long-term strategic
outlook and an expanded horizon for work in the markets
of Sub-Saharan Africa, seeking to strengthen partnerships
for the execution of projects in the area of infrastructures
in new markets of the region.
Mota-Engil’s strategy in Africa equally focuses on the
development of activity in other business areas in which
it holds recognised technical skill. This is the case of
areas such as the environment, logistics, energy, transport
concessions, in which it currently maintains an operation in
Mozambique (Zambeze Roads), and in mining, an area in
which it recently began prospecting operations.

Mota-Engil
The set of goals and strategic guidelines to be used
by all the GROUP companies is based on the principle
“One Group, one Project, one Strategy”.
1) Growth supported on internationalisation
“Ambition 2.0” forecasts a turnover of 3,154 million euros in 2015, with international
business representing more than 70% of the total amount.
2) Improved operating efficiency
“Ambition 2.0” forecasts an EBITDA greater than 450 million euros in 2015, with growth in the
generation of EBITDA in the international markets contributing to this fact, estimated to be
324 million euros in 2015.
3) Internationalisation based on the current geographical footprint
The strategy for internationalisation is based on the reinforcement of the business activity
in the regions of Europe, Africa and Latin America.
4) Consolidation of the current portfolio based
on the strategy of diversification
The strategy for diversification for the next few years will be to replicate the business model
found in Portugal, which has its foundations in various business areas where the Group
is a market leader, as is the case in the areas of Engineering and Construction, Waste
Management, Ports and Logistics and Water Concessions.
5) Investment supported by the generation of cash flow
and financing
The strategy for international growth will be premised on the local financing capacity
for the operations, with business plans in line with the generation of cash flow in each market.
6) The management of human capital and meritocracy
as the central axis for action
The development model for Human Resources retains the major axes for actions:
the development of group talent, the mobility of staff members, and meritocracy
as the basis for professional growth in the organisation.
7) Strengthening of the corporate functions as a support
for the organisational model
Considering the Group’s increased international exposure, the importance of the corporate
functions of the parent company increase exponentially as the guarantee of a single,
integrated strategy, based on unified and transversal processes.
8) The strategy adapted to each regional platform
The development of an Organisational Model with a regional structure is intended to promote
a form of management that is closer, more integrated and better prepared to deal efficiently
with the different challenges that are faced in each region.
