BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST PRAYER AND REFLECTION The Body and Blood of Christ June 2, 2013 Read: Luke 9:11b-17 TODAY is the feast of Corpus Christi — the Body and Blood of Christ. In the Gospel we will hear the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000 with just a little bread and fish. Our Lord has demonstrated the abundance that is available to us, has even made his body and blood our spiritual food. So why do we act as if there is not enough? Let us pray today for trust in our God of abundance. As Christians everywhere have always done, let us bring our needs to God this day, confident that our deepest hungers will be satisfied. Let us pray for Christians all over the world, that we may live the faith we profess and be for others the face, hands and voice of Christ on this earth … we pray, For people everywhere who suffer without access to nourishing food, clean water and effective medicines; and for those who live with too much and long for a more meaningful life of sharing God’s bounty with others … we pray, Let us pray for those who cannot pray: for those who are distracted or restless or living in the darkness of despair … we pray, Let us pray for those who suffer: for those who live with chronic pain, those who are lonely, those who are in harm’s way. For those we love and those for whom we are concerned … we pray, For good summer: for warm sun and gentle rain for our fields and gardens; for times of rest and renewal with family and friends; for safety for travelers and for all young people … we pray, For those who have died, and for those who are grieving the passing of a loved one … we pray. PRAYER: Gracious God of abundance, you provide us this beautiful world, loving companions, all that we need to be happy and holy men and women. Give us the grace to see what is available to us and open our hearts and minds to receive your abundant love. We pray always in Jesus’ name. Amen. Corpus Christi: Gn 14,18-20; Sl 108(109); 1Cor 11,23-26; Lc 9,11-17. Pe. Jonas D.
