THE SIMPLE PAST TENSE O simple past é normalmente usado para descrever ações que começaram e terminaram no passado. A primeira coisa a destacar é que os verbos podem ser regulares ou irregulares. VERBOS REGULARES São aqueles cuja forma passada é formada por regra. Forma-se o passado dos verbos regulares, acrescentando-se d, ed, ou ied. Formação da afirmativa dos verbos regulares 1: Adicionar d aos verbos terminados em e: live - lived love - loved agree - agreed tie - tied 2: Retirar o y e adicionar ied aos verbos terminados em consoante + y study - studied cry - cried 3:Adicionar ed aos verbos terminados em vogal + y play - played stay - stayed 4: Todos os outros verbos: adicionar ed work - worked kiss - kissed NOTE: O verbo com ed se usa com todas as pessoas (I,you, he, she, it, we, you, they) e somente na forma afirmativa. Exemplo de conjugação com o verbo to study Affirmative I studied you studied he studied she studied it studied we studied you studied they studied Forma negativa Há coisas importantes na forma negativa do passado: a) Você deverá usar didn’t para dizer não; b) O didn’t será usado para todas as pessoas; c) O verbo principal volta para o normal( infinitivo sem o to). Então: usa-se a forma didn’t + verbo no infinitivo sem o to, para todas pessoas. Negative I didn’t study you didn’t study he didn’t study she didn’t study it didn’t study we didn’t study you didn’t study they didn’t study Forma interrogativa Há coisas importantes na forma interrogativa do passado: a)Você deverá usar did antes de todas as pessoas para que a pergunta fique no passado; b)O verbo principal volta para o normal( infinitivo sem o to). Então: Usa-se Did + sujeito + verbo na forma normal ( infinitivo sem o to), para todas as pessoas. Exemplos de frases no tempo passado (past simple - verbos regulares) Did you like the movie? She studied hard yesterday. Did she stay home last night? Yes, she did. No, she didn’t. Advérbios de tempo que normalmente o acompanham o passado simples: Yesterday - ontem last (night, week, year, etc.) ?(noite, semana, ano, etc) passada / passado one hour ago ? (uma hora atrás) two days ago ? (dois dias atrás) a week ago ?(uma semana atrás, semana passada) VERBOS IRREGULARES São aqueles cuja forma passada não pode ser prevista por regra. A forma passada de cada verbo terá que ser memorizada. A forma passada será usada para todas as pessoas (I, you, he, she, it, we, you, they).
