He adopted a son from his first marriage to Marisa, Marcos Cláudio. Lula is also Lurian father, the daughter of an ex-girlfriend. Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was born on October 27, 1945 in the town of Garanhuns,Pernambuco - Brazil. Lula is the seventh of eight children of Mr. Aristides Inácio da Silva Ferreira e Mrs. Eurídice Ferreira de Mello. At seven years old, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva moved with his family to São Paulo, escaping a miserable life. As a child he worked as peddlers, shoeshine and office boy. At age 15, became an apprentice lathe operator. In 1970 he worked for the metalworkers union and became president of the Metalworkers Union of São Bernardo do Campo and Diadema.
