Case Lunus.
The Lunus Company, owned by Roseanna Sarney and her husband, Jorge Murad,
became the epicenter of a political crisis that changed the course of the 2002 election
campaign.
At the time, Roseanna Sarney was of the PFL, current DEM. Guarded by the power of
the father, Senator José Sarney (PMDB) and the PFL alliance that supported the government
of Fernando Henrique Cardoso, Roseanna could be the candidate of the situation against Luiz
Inacio Lula da Silva.
At the tip of Operation Lunus was the delegate Paulo Tarso de Oliveira Gomes,
current police attaché in the United States, appointed by the director general of the Federal
Police. Gomes was a man of confidence of Agílio Monteiro Filho and therefore of the PSDB.
The delegate sent from within the office of the Lunus, a fax to the Presidential Palace,
at night. The text announced the mission accomplished. The Federal Police operation,
initiated in March 2002, resulted in the seizure of R$ 1.3 million in Lunus headquarter in São
Luís, Maranhão.
The numbers of Lunus, as of the the Alvorada Palace, were recorded by Telefônica
and, a day later, were also printed by the Jornal do Brazil.
However, in an interview to Veja, the unionist Wagner Cinchetto confessed that,
working for the PT and under the orders of President Lula, was responsible for the discovery
of the case Lunus. According Cinchetto, the goal was to reach all the enemies of Lula that
year and blame it on José Serra. In fact, the case Lunus remains a mystery.
