que se encontram em situação econômica desfavorável no Brasil e precisam tanto de ajuda
financeira como de acesso à informação para melhorarem seu futuro através da educação.
Pela primeira vez no Brasil, o programa Oportunidades Acadêmicas pretende identificar
alunos altamente qualificados academicamente e com proficiência na língua inglesa, alunos
motivados que tenham dificuldades de financiar o processo de admissão para universidades
americanas. Oportunidades Acadêmicas oferece bolsas que são o reconhecimento ao
talento de alunos internacionais que precisam de auxílio financeiro para darem os primeiros
passos em direção às melhores instituições de ensino superior nos Estados Unidos.
Essas bolsas estão disponíveis para financiar os custos iniciais na busca de uma Instituição
de Ensino Superior nos EUA e são parte de uma ampla assistência que os escritórios
EducationUSA oferecem aos alunos internacionais. Queremos mostrar que alunos
internacionais como vocês são bem-vindos aos EUA e que o acesso às instituições
americanas está aberto para àqueles alunos que tenham mérito acadêmico, interesse e
ambição, porém não dispõem de recursos financeiros. Essas bolsas tornam essa realidade
possível-- não fosse este financiamento, esses alunos não teriam como arcar com os altos
custos para se candidatarem a estudar nos EUA.
O que a bolsa cobre?

Taxas de inscrição para os testes, envio de relatórios adicionais para universidades de
notas do TOEFL, SAT, GRE e outros testes especializados exigidos pelas instituições
americanas.
Transporte de ida e volta, se necessário, acomodação e refeições nos locais de teste que
sejam distantes da residência do aluno.
Taxas de matrícula nas instituições americanas para as quais o aluno esteja se
candidatando.
Taxas para a postagem internacional da documentação, para garantir que a aplicação
chegue a tempo ao seu destino nos EUA.
Custos de tradução dos documentos e registros oficiais dos alunos.
Despesas com telefonemas e internet para o processamento da admissão, agendamento
da entrevista de admissão e finalização do processo de admissão.
Custos relacionados a solicitação do visto Americano específico.
Viagem de ida e volta para a Embaixada Americana ou Consulado e, se necessário,
acomodação para pernoite e refeições.
Transporte para a instituição nos EUA onde o aluno estudará.
Aulas de inglês avançado para aumentar a competitividade do aluno em seu campo
profissional (ex. inglês técnico, científico, comercial, etc).
Auxílio único para despesas iniciais de acomodação.

Auxílio financeiro limitado para complementar o auxílio oferecido pela instituição de
Ensino Superior Americana quando esta for menor do que as necessidades do aluno.
É bom lembrar que estas bolsas existem para ajudá-lo a dar o próximo passo em direção a
uma educação superior nos EUA. Você pode dar partida nesse processo com bastante
antecedência, pode obter financiamento para as taxas de matrícula dos testes, ou poderá
solicitar o benefício após já ter sido aceito em uma universidade nos Estados Unidos para
efetuar o pagamento de seus estudos.
Este programa está disponível apenas para os candidatos que não estejam recebendo bolsa
Fulbright ou outro patrocínio ou bolsa do governo americano.

Formulário de Inscrição 2007/2008 (parte em inglês, parte em português)
Leia as instruções atentamente. É essencial que você acrescente ao seu formulário de
inscrição os seguintes documentos:
1. Uma cópia do seu histórico escolar de ensino médio e diploma se for o caso.
2. Uma carta de recomendação feita por um professor, diretor ou líder comunitário
atestando sua capacidade acadêmica e de liderança e suas características pessoais.
3. O resultado de uma prova de inglês feita a menos de três meses.
4. Escreva duas redações em inglês de no mínimo uma página, uma do grupo A e outra
do grupo B.
Grupo A – escolha um tema somente!
Colleges and universities in the United States will want to get to know you as a person,
both in and out of the classroom. Use this essay as an opportunity to let us know you, how
you think and what is important to you. As we want to get to know you and not look for
the most dramatic tale, it is essential that all experiences related in these essays are a true
and accurate depiction of your life.
A1- To what extent and how does your culture, language, and tradition shape you as a
person? In a world that is a mixed salad of cultures, how can you preserve your own while
learning to respect others? How will you handle negative stereotypes and ignorance about
your country and culture?
A2- Describe a situation where you and your opinion was in the minority. How did you
make yourself heard and how did you deal with the response to your decision or opinion?
What can you learn from this experience to apply to your future? (Please tell a true
experience from your own life).
A3- Explain a risk that you have taken that has influenced your life greatly, either
positively or negatively. What have you learned about yourself and about risktaking from
this experience?
Grupo B – escolha um tema somente!
B1- Gandhi wrote that “An eye for an eye only makes the whole world blind.” Is war ever
justified? Give arguments to support your opinion.
B2- If you were able to have dinner with a historical figure from any part of the world and
any historical time period, who would you choose and why? What lessons can the present
day world learn from that person?
B3- What is the greatest scientific discovery so far in the history of humankind? Describe
its positive and potentially negative impact to justify your choice. Now if you could make
one scientific discovery in your life, what discovery would you want to make and why?
B4- What is the role of the artist in modern society? Do the arts (theater, literature, fine
arts, music) shape societal opinion or merely reflect it? Explain.
