project Douro/Duero Virtual
The inventorying of the historical and cultural heritage of Douro Valley, now
initiated with the Project for the Architectonic and Documental Inventorying of
the Province of Zamora and District of Bragança, named Douro/Duero Virtual,
was led by CEPESE – Centro de Estudos da População, Economia e
Sociedade, in cooperation with the Associação de Municípios da Terra Fria do
Nordeste Trasmontano (Association of Municipalities from Northeast Trás-osMontes), representing the district of Bragança and the Diputación Provincial de
Zamora, representing the province of Zamora.
The project Douro/Duero Virtual, a virtual centre for the historical and cultural
heritage of Douro Valley involves both countries and it is financed by
INTERREG III-A Cooperation Portugal-Spain, subprogram Castile Leon/North
of Portugal, axis 2, measure 2.2.
This program promotes the sustainable development of limitrophe regions and
it’s under the responsibility of the European Regional Development Fund, the
Direcção Geral de Desenvolvimento Regional (Portuguese Department for
Regional Development) and the Dirección General de Fondos Comunitarios y
Financiación Territorial (Spanish department responsible for EU funds and
territorial financing).
The current project intended to lend a contribution for the knowledge and
divulging of the valuable historical and monumental heritage from the regions of
Bragança and Zamora, corroborated by the singular artistic and cultural value of
cities such as Zamora, Miranda do Douro, Puebla de Sanabria and Toro,
among others.
The portal, composed of a set of architectonic monuments and documental
funds with a relevant heritage value, presents the possibility for a basic or
advanced search, as well as suggesting a group of virtual thematic routes
accessible at the address www.dourovirtual.com.
