His areas of practice are corporate, M&A, joint ventures, banking and finance law, international financial transactions, capital markets, securities, project finance, foreign investments, privatisation, arbitration, contracts, and international law. He studied at the University of São Paulo Law School and obtained an LLB in 1972 and at the School of Business Administration of University Mackenzie, where he obtained an LLB in business administration in 1974. He also joined the post-graduation studies in commercial law and business law at the Catholic University of São Paulo Law School and obtained specialisation degrees in 1975 and 1976, respectively. He was admitted to the Brazilian Bar Association in 1973 and in the same year commenced his career at one of the most renowned law firms in Brazil (Pinheiro Neto Advogados), where he became a partner in 1985. Before that, he joined the Foreign Lawyers’ Exchange Program at Linklaters in London in 1976/1977. In 1992, he started his own practice. He is a member of the São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Federal District Sections of the Brazilian Bar Association, of the Lawyers Association of São Paulo, of the International Bar Association (IBA) and of the American Bar Association (ABA). He is the author of various articles for Brazilian and international law journals, magazines, and newspapers on his practice areas. He is also a frequent speaker in domestic and international seminars and conferences on topics related to his specialties and, invited by Prof Celso Ribeiro Bastos, gave classes on international transactions for more than ten years in the LLM and LLD Courses on Law on International Economic Affairs (Direito das Relações Economicas Internacionais) at the Catholic University of São Paulo Law School. Among his current positions, he is the immediate past co-chair of the International Financial Products and Services Committee of the ABA’s Section of International Law (SIL) and co-chair of the International Securities and Capital Markets Committee of the SIL for 2010-2011.
