This is a cross-curricular trip organised by three departments: Geography, English and Brazilian Studies. Pupils will be looking at specific topics related to each of these subjects, as well as some of the links between them: 1. To study how tourism can affect environments and people; 2. To study coastal landforms and processes; 3. To develop pupils’ research and writing skills; 4. To learn about Brazilian history; 5. To develop data collection and teamwork skills. Alda Giorno – Geografia Sr. Bruno Lanfranci – Geografia Mr Thiago Lacerda and monitors from Chão Nosso plus a nurse Arrangements for the first day of the trip – Tuesday 14th October: We will be leaving school at 0700, so please ensure you arrive at school in good time; There will be two buses parked outside school, one for boys and one for girls. Go straight to your respective bus, take your bag to the luggage hold and then register with the teacher at the door of the bus, before getting on it; Please don´t go into school – once you´re on the bus, stay on it; On the bus, seatbelts are to be worn at all times and no externally audible music or games – headphones only please; We will be stopping for a very good lunch at about 1130, so no food needs to be brought onto the bus please. Pupils will take part in a carousel of activities: 1. Visit the Historic Centre and complete a study of how tourism has affected Paraty, its people, economy and environment (Geography); 2. Studying coastal landforms and processes on a boat trip around Paraty Bay (Geografia); 3. A walking tour of the Caminho do Ouro to learn about the region’s history (Historia); 4. Completing a piece of informative and persuasive writing (English). WHERE DO WE STAY? RULES, REGULATIONS AND TIMINGS When on the bus, seatbelts must be worn at all times; Normal School Rules apply; Pupils are not allowed to enter each others’ rooms. No leaving of rooms after lights out; Pupils must carefully follow all instructions given by Teachers and Monitors at all times; Pupils are responsible for looking after their own possessions; No externally audible music to be played. No speakers - headphones only please; No laptops or video game consoles please. Departure: 0700 on Tuesday 14th October Return around 1630 on Friday 17th October WHAT SHOULD PUPILS BRING? Please see detailed kit list included with letter to parents Appropriate clothing for both wet/cold weather and warm/sunny conditions, including a waterproof jacket; - Casual change of clothes for evening activities/meals in the hotel and in Paraty; - Personal toiletries, including insect repellent and sun screen; - Sports wear including running shoes; - Swim wear, towel, sun hat and sun shades; - Water bottle, small rucksack /backpack; - Pens and pencils; - A small amount of spending money, in the region of R$100.00 – all money is the full responsibility of the pupil; - Camera; - MP3 player/tablet and headphones for the journey. - NO LAPTOPS, NO VIDEO GAMES PLEASE
