Feliz Ano Novo!
Com as celebrações das Missas da semana passada, o Natal finalmente começou. Ainda não acabou o Tempo de
Natal. Hoje ainda dentro do Tempo do Natal celebramos a Solenidade da Epifania do Senhor. É um lindo tempo
de celebrar a família e de pedir do Senhor bênçãos especiais por todas as famílias e sobre a nossa família paroquial
também. Espero que todos tiveram um Natal lindo e um Bom Ano Novo, cheio de bênçãos para todos. Com
certeza é um tempo do ano apressado e tão bom que é chegar ao nosso destino onde estaremos para o dia de
Natal e gozar do tempo com família e amigos.
Gostava de expressar o meu sincero agradecimento pelas ofertas e os desejos da boa vontade que foram feitos
neste Natal. Numa maneira especial também gostava de agradecer a todas as pessoas que fizeram esta celebração
possível. Para a Mariazinha e outros que organizaram as crianças para a Missa das 5:30pm e a Dorothy Chaves nas
outras Missas; aqueles que acentuaram nosso espaço de oraçao, Luís Travassos, Kimberly Sousa, Dorothy & Philip
Chaves e os membros do Coral em ambas as línguas, as sacristãs, os leitores, ministros extraordinários da
Comunhão, Acólitos, a minha sincera gratidão por todos. E para vós os paroquianos que encarecem as liturgias

Benção da Casa na Epifania*
Hoje, celebraremos a Epifania. Epifania é, tradicionalmente, o dia em que as casas são benzidas. Isto pode ser feito
com uma grande procissão através de cada divisão. Todas as pessoas envolvidas devem transportar qualquer coisa:
velas, incenso, a cruz ou crucífixo, os símbolos dos três Reis Magos (ouro, incenso e mirra). Em cada divisão da
casa, uma pessoa pede a benção. Por exemplo: “Que esta sala seja abençoada em nome do Pai, do Filho e do
Espírito Santo.”
Então pode espargir-se a água benta, glorificar toda a divisão com incenso e todas as pessoas podem pedir uma
benção sobre o que acontece ali: Que esta cave se mantenha seca e fria!” “Que esta cozinha seja fragrante para
todos que trabalham aqui! “Que este quarto seja preenchido com um descanso suave e bons sonhos!
Por vezes, é costume levar giz e marcar algumas das portas com o ano e as iniciais dos Reis Magos (Caspar,
Melchior e Baltazar, de acordo com a tradição). Cruzes separam as letras e números: 20+C+M+B+14.
No fim, uma oração:
Visitai esta casa, vos pedimos Ó Senhor.
Levai para longe daqui todas as armadilhas do inimigo.
Enviai os vossos santos anjos para viver connosco e nos guardar na paz.
Que a vossa benção esteja sempre connosco. Amen.

Happy New Year!
With our Mass celebrations over a week ago, Christmas began! Today within the Season of Christmas we celebrate
Blessings,

the Solemnity
of the Epiphany. It is a time to continue to ask for the Lord’s special blessings upon all families and
our parish family also. I hope all of you had a wonderful and blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year. It certainly is a hectic time of year and yet how nice it is to finally get to the destination where we will be for Christmas
day and enjoy time with family and friends.
I would like to express my sincere thanks for the gifts and good wishes given at Christmas. In a special way I’d
also like to thank all the many people who made our celebrations special in many ways: Mariazinha and those who
organized the children for the 5:30pm Mass pageant and Dorothy Chaves at the other Masses; our decorators
who visually enhanced our worship space; Luis Travassos, Kimberly Sousa, Dorothy and Philip Chaves and the
choir members in both languages; and the sacristans, the many Lectors, Ministers of Holy Communion, Altar
Servers, and Ushers. To all, a most sincere and heartfelt thanks! And to you, the parishioners, who enhance the
liturgies by your presence: that the Lord may abundantly bless you in the New Year with his goodness!
May the Lord’s Grace, Blessings and Peace be yours during the coming year!

Blessing for the Home on the Feast of the Epiphany*
This weekend, we will celebrate the Epiphany. Epiphany is traditionally the day when homes are blessed. This
could be done with a grand procession through every room. Everyone involved may have something to carry: candles, incense, the crucifix or the symbols of the three Magi (gold, incense, myrrh). In each room one person asks
for a blessing, for example, “May this room be blessed in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit. Amen.”
Then holy water may be sprinkled, the whole room incensed, and anyone can wish a particular blessing for that
room: “May this basement stay dry and cool!” or “May this kitchen be fragrant for all who work here!” or even
“May this bedroom be filled with sweet rest and good dreams!”
Sometimes it is customary to carry chalk and mark some of the doors with the year and the initials of the Magi
(Casper, Melchior and Balthasar, according to tradition). Crosses separate
the letters and numbers: 20+C+M+B+14.
At the end of this ritual through each room, the following prayer is recited:
Visit this home, we ask you O Lord.
Chase far away from it all the snares of the enemy.
Send your holy angels to live with us and keep us at peace.
May your blessing be always upon us.
Amen.

Every year, the students preparing for First Holy Communion would present a Christmas Pageant for the parish on
Christmas Eve, before Mass. One year, the teacher was going to wait until a day or two before the presentation to
teach the three young magi their names. Unfortunately, she
got sick and the new director simply asked the young actors
if they knew their names. Assured they did, she discovered
the importance of specific questions and answers when,
during the pageant, the magi announced their names as
Manny, Moe and Jack!

So who were the Magi anyway? Why do they appear for a
brief moment in the Gospel and then disappear? They don’t
really. Those who have gone before us leave an example for
us to follow. Their virtues and sins, their doubts and certainties are our own. As part of one People of God, we join
with them in seeking and finding the way, the truth and the
light.
In a sense, we present the story of the magi in our life of
faith. Our names are announced at baptism and we begin
the journey as we follow the Lord, guided by the church,
nourished by sacraments, and supported by one another.
Throughout our lives, we bear the gifts of faith, hope and
love, ready to present them to the Lord at journey’s end. We
seek the Lord where He may be found, and invite others to
join us in our quest.

Appeal. This effort directly supports the 50 ministries that
benefit hundreds of pastoral, charitable and educational
programs. We can be the Good Samaritan to others
through the Catholic Appeal. To join with our parish in our
goal to raise $18,399 please pledge your support. Envelopes

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
All are welcome, invited and encouraged to stop by the
