First Sunday of Advent
November 27, 2005
Greetings!
I trust you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. As I write this I look forward to spending
the day with my Mom, sister and brother and their families. I especially look forward to baptizing my grandnephew and grandniece during the weekend.
Last Sunday there was a brunch at the Hudson Portuguese Club. This was a fundraiser to
complete the playground adjacent to the Parish Center, which was recently blessed. The fundraiser was due to the generosity of the Portuguese Club who donated the place and the volunteers
as well as the cooks for the event. It was a tremendous success, and that’s not just because of the
funds generated. I’m not even sure what the total is yet, however it was a great gathering of the
many different peoples, ages, languages, etc. of our parish. It was truly a celebration of what it
means to be as diverse a parish as we are. There was no distinction, whatsoever. All people were
mingled together at this event. If we can get together for this event then hopefully we can do so
for many more. There is nothing greater or more grace-filled than coming together in church to
celebrate the Eucharist. This gathering and celebration of our commonality as one parish is without a doubt an extension of that Eucharistic experience. It was and is a cause for giving many
thanks to the Lord. As I was walking around I thought how wonderful it would be to replicate
this on a regular basis. It might get tiring, especially for the hard working, behind the scenes
people who made it a success. And yet it is far worth the effort for bringing us together as a community for fun. Beside the food there were raffles and a number of presentations, Portuguese,
American and Irish dancing, a magician and song. Many thanks to the Portuguese Club for the
opportunity for this great gathering. As a reminder there is a brunch with St. Nicholas coming
up, please check the bulletin for information. This will take place in the high school gym. As
well I ask you to mark your calendars for Saturday, February 25 for a parish event. The details
are yet to be ironed out, however this is the last Sunday before Lent begins and so will have Carnival as its theme. The PPC is planning this as a parish-wide event with lots of food, fun and
dancing. It will be reasonably priced, in the gym and open to all ages. More information will be
forthcoming as the event becomes finalized.
This weekend marks the beginning of Advent. At the rear of the church are a number of
Magnificat Advent booklets. They have wonderful reflections for each day of the Advent season.
It is a wonderful way to prayerfully prepare during this season of preparation for the birth of our
Savior. It is asked that as you take one you will make a donation of one or two dollars to help defray the cost of the books, however if you can’t afford to do so don’t let that be a discouragement
from taking one. Fr. Steve has been at a Peace retreat with a number of young men and women of
the Archdiocese. As you’re reading this the weekend is coming to a close. Even still I ask you to
pray for these young people that through the experience of this retreat they come to a better
knowledge of the Lord and of their relationship to him.

Primeiro Domingo do Advento

Saudações!
Acredito que todos tiveram uma maravilhosa Acção de Graças. Ao mesmo tempo que vos estou a
escrever estou a antecipar passar esse dia com a minha Mãezinha, irmã e irmão e as suas famílias. E, esperando com ansiedade, o baptizado do meu sobrinho neto e da minha sobrinha neta durante o fim-desemana.
O domingo passado houve um “brunch” no Clube Português de Hudson. Isto foi uma angariação
de fundos para completar o parque do recreio junto à Paróquia Central, que foi recentemente benzido.
Esta angariação foi possível devido à generosidade do Clube Português, que contribuiu com o lugar, e dos
voluntários assim como dos cozinheiros. Foi um tremendo sucesso e não só pelos lucros, de que nem sequer sei o total ainda, mas pelo excepcional convívio de tanta gente diferente, em idades, línguas, etc. que
fazem parte da nossa paróquia. Foi uma verdadeira celebração do significado de uma tal diversificada
paróquia, como nós temos. Neste evento todos se misturaram sem distinções. Se conseguimos tudo isto
neste acontecimento tenho esperança que o poderíamos fazer muitas mais vezes. Não há nada mais importante ou mais cheio de graça que nos encontrarmos juntos na igreja para celebrar a Eucaristia. Este encontro é a celebração do nosso povo como uma paróquia e, sem dúvida, é a extensão da experiência daquela
Eucaristia. Foi e é uma causa para dar muitas graças ao Senhor. Ao andar à volta pensei; que maravilhoso
seria podermos fazer isto regularmente. Talvez se tornasse cansativo, especialmente, pelo trabalho difícil
que as pessoas fazem sem dar nas vistas e que é a razão do sucesso do acontecimento. E, contudo, vale a
pena o esforço de nos juntarmos como uma comunidade alegre. Além da comida houve sorteios e algumas
representações, Portuguesas, Americanas, danças Irlandesas, magia e canções. Muitos agradecimentos ao
Clube Português pela oportunidade deste grande convívio. Quero lembrá-los que vai haver outro brunch
no ginásio do liceu pela altura do S. Nicolau, por favor vejam o boletim para informações. Também vos
peço para marcarem nos vossos calendários a data de Sábado, 25 de Fevereiro para um evento paroquial.
Está a tratar-se dos pormenores, mas, desde que é no último Sábado antes da Quaresma começar, o motivo
será o Carnaval. O PPC está a planear isto como extensivo evento da paróquia com muita comida, alegria e
dança. O preço vai ser razoável, será no ginásio e é para todas as idades. Haverá mais informações quando
o acontecimento se finalizar.
Este fim-de-semana marca o princípio do Advento. Ao fundo da igreja encontra-se um número do
Advento do Magnificat em folhetos. Neles há maravilhosas reflexões para cada dia da estação do Advento.
Ė uma excelente maneira de, devotamente, nos prepararmos para o nascimento do nosso Salvador. Pedimos que, para cada um que levem, deixem um donativo de um ou dois dólares para ajudar no custo dos
livros, contudo, se não o poderem fazer, aconselhamos que levem um da mesma maneira. O Pe. Steve tem
estado num retiro sobre a Paz com um número de jovens, de ambos os sexos, da Arquidiocese. Ao lerem
isto, este fim-se-semana está quase a acabar. Mas, ainda vos peço para rezarem por esta gente nova, que
através da experiência deste retiro irá ter um conhecimento melhor do Senhor e da sua afinidade para com
Ele.

Pieta Memorial Mass
The annual Mass sponsored by the parents of Pieta,
for deceased children will be held on Monday evening Dec. 12 at 7:00 pm at St. Michael Church. A
candlelight ceremony is part of the service. Parents
may call Catherine 978-562-3016 or Theresa 978-5623798 to have their child’s name in the printed program. Please call by December 6. All the names
from past years Masses will be included. Celebrant
will be Rev. Paul O’Malley from Clinton. After
Mass there will be a gathering and light refreshments served at St. Michael Parish Center Room.
Pieta Memorial Missa
A Missa anual subsidiada pelos pais do Pieta, para
crianças falecidas terá lugar na Segunda-feira à
noite, 12 de Dez. às 7:00 pm na Igreja de S. Miguel.

dos seus filhos imprimidos no programa. Por favor

Hannaford Helps Schools—St. Michael School is participating in the Hannaford Helps Schools Program.
Customers will receive school dollar certificates at the register with purchases of participating products.
These certificates can be sent into school or put into the St. Michael School bin in the display at the Hudson
Hannaford Store. This campaign runs until Dec. 3, 2005 and St. Michael School will receive $1 for every
school dollar certificate that it collects by December 16. Thank you for your participation.
Hannaford Ajuda as Escolas - A Escola de S. Miguel está a participar neste programa. Os clients recebem
certificados escolares de um dólar na caixa registadora, quando comprarem determinados produtos. Estes
certificados podem ser enviados para a escola ou colocados num recipiente destinado à Escola de S. Miguel,
que se encontra no supermercado Hannaford em Hudson. Esta campanha dura até 3 de Dezembro, 2005 e a
Escola de S. Miguel receberá um dólar por cada certificado, que serão recolhidos a 16 de Dezembro. Obrigado pela vossa participação.
Religious Education
Thanksgiving weekend - no Religious Education classes this weekend. Grades 3, 4 & 5 will have classes this
Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov 29th and 30th.
First Penance Parents Meeting - All parents of children who will be celebrating the Sacrament of Penance for
the first time are asked to attend a very important meeting on one of the following dates: next Sunday, Dec
4th, from 10-11 in the High School Gym am or Tuesday, Dec 6th, from 6-7 pm or Wednesday, Dec 7th, from 6-7
pm. in the Parish Center.
Christmas Pageant - Rehearsals for the children’s Christmas Pageant will begin next Saturday, Dec 3th and
will continue on Dec 10th and 17th from 2 - 4 p.m. All parish children, age 4 to grade 4,are welcome to participate in the pageant which will take place at the 4 pm Mass in the high school gym on Christmas Eve.

5a. classes terão aulas na próxima Terça e Quarta-feiras, 29 e 30 de Novembro.
Primeira Penitência - Reunião dos Pais – Pede-se a todos os pais das crianças que vão celebrar o Sacramento
da Penitência pela primeira vez , para assistirem a uma reunião muito importante numa das datas seguintes:
Domingo, 4 de Dezembro, das 10-11 am, a Liceu Catolico de Hudson Terça-feira, 6 de Dezembro, das 6-7 pm
ou Quarta-feira, 7 de Dezembro, das 6-7 pm. on Centro Paroquial.
Festa de Natal - Os ensaios das crianças para esta festa começam no próximo Domingo, 3 de Dezembro e
continuarão nos dias 10 e 17 de Dez., das 2 - 4 p.m. Todas as crianças da paróquia, desde os 4 anos de idade
até à 4a. classe, são benvindas a participarem na festa, que terá lugar na Missa das 4 pm da Véspera do Natal,
no ginásio do liceu.

The Saint Michael Parish Schools January Prize
calendars are now on sale for $10 each. Order
forms are in this week’s bulletin, and they may
be purchased from any St. Michael Parish
School family or at the Parish Center office.
This year prizes also include some gift certificates, and all prizes were donated by local businesses. We thank them for their support.
Our Father’s Table
Our Father’s Table is asking for your generosity
once more. Underwear sizes, medium, large,
and
X-large are needed for their guests.
A container will be provided at the entrance of

Malassadas Sale
A profit of $900.00 was made at the malassadas
sale. Thank you for all the helpers and for the
donations.
Next sale will be December 11 from 7:00 am to
1:00 pm. Donations will be greatly appreciated.
Catholic Daughters
Court St. John Eudes, Catholic Daughters of the
Americas will hold its monthly meeting and annual
Christmas party, Thursday, December 1, at The
Train Stop Restaurant in Berlin. The festivities
will begin at 11:45am. Instead of exchanging
gifts, the Court will collect money for Christmas
presents for a needy child in the area. Also, the
winners of the Scholarship raffle will be drawn.
Members are reminded to make their raffle and
luncheon returns to Janet Wisti, Regent.
