Notes From the Pastor’s Desk
Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time
In the parable of the wedding feast, Jesus offers an image of the kingdom of heaven using the
symbol of a wedding banquet. Jesus' listeners would have been familiar with the image of a wedding
feast as a symbol for God's salvation. They would consider themselves to be the invited guests.
Keeping this in mind helps us to understand the critique Jesus makes with this parable. The context for this parable is the
growing tension between Jesus and the Jewish religious leaders in Jerusalem.
The parable Jesus tells is straightforward. The king dispatches his servants to invite the guests to the wedding feast that
he is planning for his son. The listeners would have been surprised to learn that the first guests refused the invitation. Who
would refuse the king's invitation? A second dispatch of servants follows. Again to the listeners' great surprise, some guests
ignore the invitation. Some of the invited guests even go so far as to mistreat and kill the servants. The king invokes his
retribution against these murderers by destroying them and burning their city.
With the invited guests now deemed unworthy to attend the king's wedding feast, the servants are sent to invite whomever they can find. The guests arrive, but it appears that accepting the king's invitation brings certain obligations. The guest
who failed to dress in the appropriate wedding attire is cast out of the feast. We are reminded that while many are invited to
the kingdom of heaven, not all are able to meet its requirements. God invites us to his feast, giving us his salvation. Yet he
asks us to repent for our sins.
Jesus' message in the parable cautions against exclusive beliefs about the kingdom of heaven. The parable also teaches
about humility. Those who assume that they are the invited guests may find that they have refused the invitation, and so
others are invited in their place. To accept the invitation is also to accept its obligations. God wants our full conversion in
complete acceptance of his mercy.
Fr. Matteo
P. Matteo
28º Domingo do Tempo Comum
recusaram o convite. Quem recusaria o convite do Rei?
Deus quer nossa plena conversão e completa
aceitação da sua misericórdia.

Wednesday, October 15 at
10:30 am in the Church. The
better we understand Jesus,
the better we understand ourselves. But who was Jesus,
this itinerant preacher whom many called the Messiah?
In Priest, Prophet, King, you’ll discover Jesus as the
Anointed One - the ultimate priest, prophet, and king
foreshadowed throughout the Hebrew Scriptures. Using
biblical insights and engaging stories, Father Barron
affirms that we see Jesus most clearly through the lens of
the Old Testament.
Through this presentation of Priest, Prophet, King,
you will better understand Jesus, become more familiar
with Scripture, and realize your own priestly, prophetic,
and kingly mission.

PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF APARECIDA
Lady Aparecida, a son of yours who belongs to you
unreservedly – "totus tuus" – called by the mysterious
plan of Providence to be the Vicar of your Son on earth,
wishes to address you at this moment. He recalls with
emotion, because of the brown color of this image of
yours, another image of yours, the Black Virgin of Jasna
Gora (patroness of Poland).
Mother of God and our Mother, protect the Church,
the Pope, the bishops, the priests and all the faithful people; welcome under your protecting mantle men and
women religious, families, children, young people, and
their educations.
Health of the sick and Consoler of the afflicted, comfort those who are suffering in body and soul; be the light
of those who are seeking Christ, the Redeemer of all;
show all people that you are the Mother of our confidence.
Queen of Peace and Mirror of Justice, obtain peace
for the world, ensure that Brazil and all countries may
have lasting peace, that we will always live together as

Protect them from the physical and moral dangers of military

Ó Virgem Aparecida, padroeira do
Brasil, que espalhais inúmeras bênçãos
sobre a nossa Pátria, desejosos de
participar dos benefícios de vossa
misericórdia, prostrados aos vossos pés,
consagramo-vos nossa mente, nossa
vontade e nosso coração para que
estejam sempre ao serviço do bem. Nós
vos consagramos, também, ó Senhora
Aparecida, as nossas famílias e todo o
povo brasileiro. Livrai-nos da violência,
dos desastres, das doenças, do pecado e
de todo mal. Acolhei sob a vossa
maternal proteção as nossas famílias, as
crianças, os doentes, os velhinhos e os
pobres que não têm amparo. Abençoai o
papa, os bispos e presbíteros, nossos
padres e todo vosso povo. Senhora
Aparecida, padroeira querida do Brasil,
socorrei-nos em todas as nossas
necessidades, fortalecei-nos em nossa
fraqueza, caminhai conosco, a fim de
que, seguindo os passos de vosso Filho
Jesus, possamos um dia louvar-vos e
bendizer-vos para sempre no céu.
Amém!
