Vitor Pereira Crespo, natural de Milagres – Leiria nascido em 2 de Dezembro
de 1932, filho de Teodoro António Crespo e Maria Cândida Pereira Crespo,
casado com Maria Eugénia Nunes Beja. Teve dois filhos – Rui Gustavo e Maria
Raquel.
Licenciado em Química pela Universidade de Coimbra em 1956. Doutorou-se
em Química Nuclear pelas Universidades da Califórnia – Berkeley – e pela
Universidade de Coimbra em 1962. Foi Professor Catedrático da Universidade
de Coimbra entre 1968 e 1995. Jubilou-se em 1995. Foi Professor e Reitor na
Universidade de Lourenço Marques (hoje Maputo) em 1967 – 1972 Ensinou nas
Universidades Particulares: Univ. Lusófona 1995 – 1999 e na Univ. Autónoma
de Lisboa 1999 – 2002.
Participou na 12ª Conferência Permanente dos Ministros da Educação que teve
lugar em Sófia em 1980 e foi Presidente da 38ª Conferência Internacional da
educação da UNESCO que teve lugar em 1981 em Genebra. Foi Presidente do
Conselho Executivo do Centro Norte-Sul (UNESCO) de 1992 a 1995
Membro do Parlamento, 1980 e Dez. de 1992. Director-Geral do Ensino
Superior, 1973-1974 e Ministro da Educação de 1980 a 1982. Embaixador de
Portugal na UNESCO, Paris 1984-1986. Foi Presidente da Assembleia da
República na Sessão de 1987 a 1991. Membro da Comissão Política do Partido
Social Democrata 1983- 1987.
Presidiu ao Sector da Avaliação das Universidades da APESP e nessa qualidade
foi vogal do CNAVES.
Membro da Americam Chem. Soc, da Americam Phys. Soc., da Sociedade
Portuguesa de Química e da Scientific Research Society Sigma XI
