whole community for them. In the Baptism
ceremony for children there is a simpler prayer,
but for older people, the church prays over them
three Sundays in a row. These children then will
enter the waters of Baptism at the Easter Vigil.

It is the high light of the Christian year as we all

The Rite of Election is the special

who are preparing to be baptized solemnly sign

final step in their journey to the Waters of

for Holy Communion, but had not been baptized.
They were there in the Cathedral called by name
and then with their parents and God-parents,
signed the Book of Election and were received
by the Archbishop. It was beautiful to see the
new Archbishop, Bishop Hebda greet each one
as they entered the sanctuary to be blessed by
him.
Into Your hands, 0 Lord,
I commend my spirit
confident I shall one day
see You face to face.
And on that day, this dust
will once again be glorified
to form Your holy temple
forever.

O Rito de Eleição é a cerimônia em que
os Catecúmenos, ou aqueles que estão se
preparando para o Batismo ou a plena iniciação
na vida sacramental da Igreja se comprometem
solenemente assinando o Livro dos Eleitos como
um compromisso por escrito que eles realmente
querem ser batizados. Tudo isso é um sinal de
que a Igreja leva isso a sério. Isso é o início da
etapa final da caminhada para as águas do
Batismo. Nessas cerimônias cada candidato é
chamado pelo nome, e ficam em pé antes de
assinar seus nomes no livro dos Eleitos como
compromisso sério que de fato querem aceitar
Jesus Cristo como Senhor e Salvador. Seus pais
e padrinhos testemunharam esse ato dos seus
filhos e afilhados e caminharam com eles para o
Santuário para serem recebidos pelo Arcebispo.
Foi muito bonito ver o novo Arcebispo acolher
cada um enquanto eles aproximaram do altar.
Agora nos próximos três domingos, a
nossa comunidade paroquial rezará sobre esses
jovenzinhos as orações especiais que se chamam
“os Escrutínios”. Essas são orações de proteção
