Eduardo Esteves
Birth place and date: Luanda (Angola), 1972
Eduardo Esteves is Adjunct Professor of applied statistics (and experimental design), statistical process
control, sensory analysis and quality of seafood products at the University of Algarve Institute of
Engineering (ISE) since 2005 (a faculty member since 2001) and Researcher of the Centre of Marine
Sciences CCMar/CIMAR – Associate Laboratory (since 1997). He is currently the Director of the M.Sc.
course in Food Technology hosted by the Department of Food Engineering (ISE) and is the appointed ISE
representative at the Instituto Português da Qualidade Technical Commission responsible for
Standardization of fishery and aquaculture products (since 2006).
After earning a Degree (with Honours) in Marine Biology and Fisheries (1995) from the University of
Algarve, Eduardo Esteves completed a M.Sc. degree in Ecology at the University of Coimbra (1999) and
received his Ph.D. in Population Ecology from the University of Algarve in 2006. His research interests
include (a) sensory analysis (sensometrics) and quality control of seafood products and (b) statistical
modelling of ecophysiological and early life-history traits of (anadromous) fish larvae. Author of several
scientific articles and shorter and/or dissemination contributions (see below), he has served has
(scientific) referee for several publications: Environmental Biology of Fishes, Journal of Food Science,
International Journal of Molecular Sciences, Italian Journal of Zoology. More information at

Eduardo Esteves é Equiparado a Professor Adjunto no Departamento de Engenharia Alimentar (DEA),
Instituto Superior de Engenharia (ISE) da Universidade do Algarve desde 2005 e Investigador do Centro
de Ciências do Mar CCMar/CIMAR – Laboratório Associado (desde 1997). No ISE, lecciona as
disciplinas de Estatística Aplicada (e planeamento experimental), Análise Sensorial, Gestão/Controlo
Estatístico da Qualidade e Qualidade dos Produtos da Pesca e Aquicultura. Actualmente é Director do
Curso de Mestrado em Tecnologia de Alimentos do DEA e Representante (desde 2006) do ISE na
Comissão Técnica (CT 25) do Instituto Português da Qualidade – Produtos da Pesca e Aquicultura.
Depois de concluir Licenciatura em Biologia Marinha e Pescas (Universidade do Algarve, 1995),
Eduardo Esteves completou o Mestrado em Ecologia (Universidade de Coimbra, 1999) e obteve o
Doutoramento em Ecologia das Populações (Universidade do Algarve, 2006). Os interesses de
investigação incluem (a) estatística aplicada à análise sensorial (sensometrics) e controlo de qualidade de
produtos da pesca e aquicultura e (b) modelação estatística de aspectos da biologia e ecofisiologia das
fases larvares de peixes (anádromos). Autor de vários artigos científicos, de divulgação técnico-científica
e outras contribuições, tem servido como árbitro científico (referee) para várias publicações:
Environmental Biology of Fishes, Journal of Food Science, International Journal of Molecular Sciences,
