Basic Guide for Exchange Students
SP Escola de Teatro – Centro de Formação das Artes do Palco, located in this capital
of the state of São Paulo, is a project created to fill the gap that we recently realized exists
between the emergence of a number of theatrical venues in the country, the lack of professionals qualified of working in them and the importance of including disenfranchised
social segments into the cultural processes.
The project is structured on three pillars – Regular Courses, Cultural Extension
Courses and the Kairós Program - which support the systemic operations of the institution’s sectors, encompassing several artistic and educational activities. It also proposes
new challenges for teaching performing arts in Brazil and perceives its teachers and
learners through their sensibilities and potentials for the artistic, human, critical, and citizenship areas.
Although its origin is related to the perception that, in recent years, (I) the increase
in demand for labor in cultural venues has exceeded the supply of qualified professionals to perform these functions, and that (II) there is a lack of technically prepared professionals to take up the duties of lighting and sound operation, props and costume design,
stage management, and others, the school was not designed only to meet the market’s
needs, but essentially to share knowledge and, through it, provide top quality artistic
training, assisting, when necessary, underprivileged students.
With these goals in sight, associations of highly accomplished theatre professionals of the São Paulo stage met to compose the school’s faculty and staff, which were
designed in a partnership with the State Department of Culture and hold an educational
system that is unique in Brazil.
Therefore, SP Escola de Teatro, by employing art and education as elements of
social change, works to train artists/citizens, fostering in them a reflexive awareness and
also qualifying them as theatre professionals.

Communication, Education, Library and Cultural Extension, Kairós Program,
Production, Administrative/Financial/Accounting, Information Technology &
Communication and Innovation.
The Executive Board is responsible for SP Escola de Teatros Political and Pedagogical Plan. It plays a key role in proposals and pedagogical guidelines, in defining plans and
goals to be achieved and in institutional relationships.

The Communication Department is responsible for the preparation, publication and
dissemination of various printed and digital materials. At the school portal, you can find information on the institution and the theatre milieu, as well as access photo galleries, news,
announcements, employee activity, students and/or artists linked or not to the School, tips on
plays, news stories, articles, and other information. It is worth calling attention to one project
housed in the School portal: Teatropedia, a Virtual Encyclopedia of Stage Arts.

At the Pedagogical Department, the students of the Regular Courses can get
guidance, information and educational advice. They may also consult and justify their
absences from class, consult cultural and expanded Territories and request the issuance
of different documents: student card and certificates, and also solve issues involving en-

rollment, re-enrollments and leaves of absence. Information on Dates of Experiments
and location of classes can be found in this department, which also offers tickets to plays
of a number of theater companies.

The Library is responsible for the loan of books and films from the school collection. It is equipped with computers and internet access for the general use of students
and employees. The registration into the library system, essential before use, is made

The Cultural Extension offers around 30 courses per year, each lasting 64 hours. They are
free courses, created under the same educational and artistic precepts of the Regular Courses.
Extension courses directly bridge the gap with creators and thinkers from other spheres. The
Cultural Extension is also responsible for the online chat held every Thursday from 4 to 5pm, at
the school portal. This department also offers remote learning courses and roundtable discussions with professionals of vast knowledge.

The Kairós Program is the department dealing with opportunity. It is responsible
for the preparation and implementation of social and/or cultural projects, for students’
internship and job placement possibilities, for national and international exchange, for
conceding grants and aids, for fundraising and research development/analysis. The main
action of the program is the Bolsa-Oportunidade (Opportunity Scholarship), which provides up to 150 grants per semester, totaling R$ 622.00 (six hundred and twenty-two
reais) to students enrolled in any of the Regular Courses. The Bolsa-Oportunidade may
be requested according to the rules prescribed in each official announcement.

SP Trans provides an online tool to inquire about bus routes. With this tool you
define a path, find a line or place and discover interesting itineraries. Enjoy it.
Itinerary: Enter your starting and arrival points and follow the suggested path
through the map. In the fields “From” and “To” you can use an address, a place or a
zip code to conduct your search.
Bus line: Do you want to know if a bus line passes through a specific point? Enter
