Japeri Golf Newsletter / July – September 2013 Vitória Monteiro plays for Brazil in Chile 2013 continues to be a very important year for Japeri Golf to show our work internationally. Vitória Monteiro, 14 years old, is in 2nd place in the Brazilian Under 15 girls ranking and was called to play for Brazil in the South American Under 15 Team Championships, held in Chile between September 23rd and 29th. Sixty of the best girls and boys in the continent were playing. Having taken our 2 best boys to play in The Junior Open at Lytham and the Orange Bowl in Miami in 2012, it is now the time for the girls to show their game. Congratulations Vitoria. Japeri in the news – Vitória Monteiro made the headlines in the sports pages of the national newspaper O Dia, and also gave several interviews for radio and TV. Japeri was mentioned in several of the sporting pages and sites in the national newspaper o Globo. The Junior Environmental Agent Course comes to its end Our latest Junior Environmentalist Agent course ended in September. The purpose of this course is to make the children aware of the importance of caring for our environment on a daily basis. The classes, given by the environmental consultant Jorge de Souza, were attended by 20 juniors once each week during 4 months. A visit to the Volta Redonda Zoo celebrated the end of the classes. Our next course will start in February. Success at the Teresópolis Open Breno Domingo played very well at the Teresópolis Open in august, coming in 2nd place in the scratch category, missing going to play-off by one stroke. Thuane Oliveira and Isabela Sales also played and Thuane came in 4th in the ladies scratch while Isabela won the handicap category. Tiago Silva takes part in the R&A Professional Golfers Seminar Our Head Pro, Tiago Silva, took part in the first Program for Training the Pros, offered by the R&A in São Paulo, with the intent of promoting awareness and growth of golf on a national level. Over 50 Brazilian pros attended the 3 day seminar, which had as guest speakers Tony Bennett (PGA Europe), Mark Lawrie (Argentine Golf Association) and Shaun Case (Coach to the CBG) amongst others. Tournaments of this Trimester A lot was happening for the juniors of Japeri Golf this trimester. Anderson Nunes, Breno Domingos, Cristian Barcelos, Thuane Oliveira and Vitória Monteiro played in various events, such as the Brazilian Amateur Championship, The Faldo Series South America Final, The Brazilian Junior Open, the Match Play of the Rio Federation and the Brazilian Interstate Championship. Cristian took 3rd place in the match play event and was invited to take part in the Rio Team for the Brazilian Interstate Championships for the 3rd year in a row. Positive results in Buzios The Spring Open Tournament, valid for State ranking, was held in Buzios at the end of September with very good results from our juniors. Cristian Barcelos took first place in the scratch category while Breno Domingos took second. Breno also won the Best Junior prize. Very strong winds make the Buzios links course quite difficult, but both boys were satisfied with their results. With this 1st place Cristian maintains his 2nd place in adult Rio State Ranking. He continues in 12th place in Brazilian National Ranking due to his strong 4th place finish at the São Paulo Open in august.
