SP-­‐ARTE, THE LEADING LATIN AMERICAN ART FAIR WILL OPEN ITS DOORS FOR ITS 11TH EDITION FROM APRIL 9 TO 12 IN SAO PAULO, BRAZIL In its 2015 edition, SP-ARTE will present cutting edge works alongside classic masters to bring to São Paulo
the best of Brazilian and international artists and galleries.
With 23 new participating galleries and 91 returning galleries some of the highlights include Ângela
Ferreira, Galeria Filomena Soares; Hans Art, Michael Werner Gallery; Armando Andrade Tudela, Galeria
Fortes Vilaça; Marcel Duchamp, Galerie 1900 - 2000; William Kentridge, Galleria Lia Rumma, Goodman
Gallery, Marian Goodman Gallery; Tracey Emin, White Cube Gallery; and Marina Abramovic, Luciana
Brito Galeria.
Fernanda Feitosa, Director of SP-ARTE said “We are thrilled to welcome to Sao Paulo and to the
fair the finest artists and galleries from around the world. We are very proud to present the 11th
edition of the fair with a strong participation throughout all the sections. We are also happy to
present Open Plan and Performance, the two new section of the fair that alongside with the Main
Sector, Solo, and Showcase will provide visitors with a fulfilling art experience”.
In 2015, SP-Arte will inaugurate a platform dedicated to performances. PERFORMANCE is a
result of a partnership with Centro Universitário Belas Artes de São Paulo and is coordinated by
Cauê Alves (the curator and coordinator of Belas Artes’ Visual Arts course) and curated by Juliana
Moraes (professor at Belas Artes) and Marcos Gallon (curator of the VERBO Performance Art
Festival, at Galeria Vermelho). Twelve artists were selected for their performances that will use the
Pavilion as their stage, occupying the fair’s aisles, ramp, outdoor areas, as well as a specific
performance arena located on the third floor of the Pavilion.
Continuing with a strong program of curated sections, SP-ARTE will also present the installations
section, Open Plan, organized by Jacopo Crivelli Visconti. Open plan will be an area dedicated to
site-specific works and large installations by well-known artists giving visitors the opportunity to
engage directly with the works thanks to its open layout and design.
The Brazilian art magazine ARTE!Brasilerios collaborated with SP-ARTE on a program of panel
discussions that focusses on the art market and its cultural and social value. The Talks Program,
Art as a Value, will include three panels between April 9 and 10, beginning before the opening
hours of the fair in the Museu de Arte Moderna (MAM) Auditorium and will be free to the public.
Speakers include Paulo Herkenhoff, artistic director of the Museu de Arte do Rio (MAR) in a panel
discussion with author Sarah Thornton, and Thomas Galbreith, managing director of Paddle 8,
online auction house. On Thursday evening, Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, curator of the 2015
Istanbul Biennial will be in conversation with Ivo Mesquita, Brazilian curator and art historian,
and Friday’s panel will present Marcio Fainziliber, president of Museu de Arte do Rio on a panel
discussion with Donald and Mera Rubell from The Rubell Family Collection based in Miami.

EDITORS NOTES
1. SP-ARTE continues to expand its presence and reach with participating artists and galleries
from around the world including countries as Austria, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Portugal, South
Africa, Spain, Switzerland, United States of America, United Kingdom and Uruguay
accompanying more that 80 galleries from Brazil.

3. About the Solo Section curators: Colombian María Inés Rodríguez is currently the Chief
Curator, Director of Contemporary Art Museum Bordeaux. She formerly headed the artistic
program of the Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC) in Mexico City. From
November 2009-2011, María Inés Rodríguez was the Chief Curator of the Museo de Arte
Contemporáneo de Castilla y León (Spain). During 2008-2009, she has been the Curator of
Satellite program at Jeu de Paume, Paris, as well as the Editor of the French art publication Point
d’Ironie in Paris. As an independent curator and art critic, she has worked on exhibitions and
research projects on the strategies of appropriation of the public space in different spaces of
contemporary art, which relate art, design, architecture and urbanism.
Rodrigo Moura is the art and cultural diretor of Inhotim, museum in the countryside of Minas
Gerais state. He joined as an assistant curator and coordinated site-specific works by artists such as
Jorge Macchi, Marilá Dardot and Rivane Neuenschwander. He also worked as the curator of
Museu de Arte da Pampulha, in Belo Horizonte. As a journalist, editor and art critic, he had pieces
published by Folha de S. Paulo, Flash Art International and Art Nexus, among others.
4. About the Open Plan Section curator: Jacopo Crivelli Visconti is a curator and writer. He was
curator of the XII Cuenca Biennial in Ecuador and he has been responsible of exhibition such as
the Brazilian Pavilion in the 52 Benniale di Venezia in 2007; Sismografo at Palacio das Artes de
Belo Horizonte; and Ponto de equilibrio at the Instituto Tomie Ohtake.
5. About the location: SP-ARTE takes place in the Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion in Ibirapuera Park
in São Paulo. The pavilion was designed by Oscar Neimeyer and Hélio Uchôa.
