Caixa - considerações sobre o lugar [Box - considerations about the place] André Banha and Orlando Franco Convento de Cristo, Tomar Opening: Saturday, 17th October 2015, 17H Until 31st December 2015 Convento de Cristo, in Tomar, between October the 17th and December the 31st, presents the exhibition Caixa - considerações sobre o lugar [Box - considerations about the place]by André Banha and Orlando Franco, curated by Catarina da Ponte. This work appears inserted in the cycle of Contemporary Art exhibitions, co-produced by Project Travessa da Ermida, in Belém, Lisbon, and by Convento Cristo, in Tomar aiming to bring the Contemporary Art to this emblematic monument of the history of Portugal. The exhibition Caixa- considerações sobre o lugar [Box - considerations about the place] presents a group of works, some produced individually by each artist and others thought as a two man work. In this sense, the presented proposals create formal and conceptual areas of contamination, always with a present preoccupation about dialogue with the architecture, the history and the mystique of the place (convento). Considering the archetype of geometrical construction, the box presents the intention of reserving a space for a specific purpose. The walls define a new spatiality, mark a border, invent in the outside the possibility of the inside. Throughout installation, sculpture, video and photography the artists find ways of sparking questions around concepts like time, light, space and monumentality. All of them decisive in the experience of the place (convento). André Banha and Orlando Franco have started, in 2014, a collaboration which have been being translated in two man works signed by both, namely in “Prémio Artemar Estoril 2014”, “CAD 3” – Estúdio Susana Anágua invites André Banha and Orlando Franco”, in Cascais Cidadela Art District; the “Observatório da espera, da luz e do tempo I”, in the Trienal no Alentejo, with intervention in the Lagoa de Sto. André, in 2015 and, also in 2015, “Observatório da espera, da luz e do tempo II”, in the Trienal no Alentejo, in the Auditório Municipal António Chainho, in Santiago do Cacém,.
