This new organization now responds for all actions and projects related to development activities, and also assimilates the titles and acknowledgments received so far. Therefore, the Instituto Embratel Claro remains with the OSCIP qualification granted by the Justice Department as well as the Associative Status to DPI/UN, achieved in 2012. Aligned to the premise of América Móvil group in being an organization that can affect in a positive and permanent manner the communities it serves and belongs to, the unification initiative of the corporate social responsibility institutes aims at perfecting the actuation and scope of activities that support the social, cultural and educational development of Brazilian communities. Supporting the integral development of communities, establishing partnerships with institutes and foundations which are dedicated to a sustainable development of Brazilian regions and offering Internet access to more and more people are the paths which will continue to be followed by Instituto Embratel Claro. Thus, the presentation of the annual activities report brings us a great satisfaction, being such an important exercise of transparency and accountability. We hope you enjoy your reading. In this sense, in 2013 the Projeto Embratel Claro Educação was inaugurated at Marquês de Salamanca City School, located at the rural area of the city of Três Rios (RJ). In order to celebrate the digital inclusion enabled by the technical-educational agreement made with the Instituto Marquês de Salamanca, the school students prepared a cultural event inspired in the centenary of Vinícius de Moraes’ birth. In the lab, where there are 16 computers for the development of social-educational activities, the school’s principal thanked the support given by Embratel and appreciated the motivation and expectation shown by students who participated, including, in the elaboration of rules for the use of equipment. Marquês de Salamanca City School has 101 students and eight teachers. The classes are given in the afternoon, and the school is attended by the community in other periods and weekends. Therefore, there are 130 families benefited by Projeto Embratel Claro Educação, which gave the school a satellite Internet connection, social-educational contents and computers. 13 C O R P O R A T E S O C I A L R E S P O N S I B I L I T Y 2 013 Since its opening, the Computer Center, in partnership with Instituto Embratel Claro has become a reference space for the digital inclusion within the community. On Tuesdays and Thursdays morning, there are classes for the school students. On Saturdays and Sundays, the community in general has classes. The courses last 4 months, and 19 have been graduated so far. The activities in the Computer Center include Internet researches, educational games and computer classes – how to turn it on and off, how to use the mouse, and many others things. Education and Technology The Institute also carried out digital inclusion actions and improvement of the use of communication and information technologies in two regions of the country that have public schooling institutions integrated to the Projeto Embratel Claro Educação. The first activity happened in the city of Bacabeira, countryside of Maranhão. As part of the partnership program between the City Hall of Bacabeira, Petrobras, Instituto Embratel Claro, and Fundação Trompowsky for the performance of Educando para Incluir (Education for Inclusion Project), the Instituto Embratel Claro carried out a meeting among teachers from 19 public city schools (all served by the project) for training and guidance for the use of ICTs. The selected professionals by the department of education for taking part in the activities will act as advisors, spreading their knowledge to other students of the municipal education network. 14 The second activity, in Amazonas, was the admission of two public schools as part of the digital inclusion project of Embratel Educational in order to attend the demand as requested by the community in a public audience carried out in Ilha da Marchantaria. This is a service to two schools located along the banks of River Solimões. At one side, the City School Francisco Leite da Silva in Iranduba (AM), and at the other side, the City School São João in Careiro da Várzea (AM). Besides promoting the access do Internet and the numerous contents offered by the digital network, the Institute performed a meeting with the educators of these schools for a training session regarding the use of computer tools and presenting the use Educando para Incluir possibilities of technology as a didactic resource. Education for Inclusion (PARTNERED PROJECT) Within the scope of Projeto Embratel Claro Educação, the Institute established, in December 2012, a cooperation agreement with Petrobras, Bacabeira City Hall (MA) and Fundação Trompowsky /Brazilian Army for the performance of school tutoring and digital inclusion programs directed to students with low performance and age/grade gaps of the city education network of Bacabeira (MA) – Social Exclusion Index: 4453rd. There are 20 Internet satellite access points distributed along 19 schools of the city network and one telecentre, serving the demands of 3,897 students and 201 teachers, besides contributing to their didactic process. The process was implemented in 2013. 15 Programa Dupla Escola Double School Program (PARTNERED PROJECT) On February 3rd, 2014, in Pedra de Guaratiba, was inaugurated the first public high school education institution of the integral model, also integrated to the professional technical education in telecommunications. This is the State School Hebe Camargo, a realization of State Government of Rio de Janeiro, in a partnership with Instituto Embratel Claro and Xuxa Meneghel Foundation. Instituto Embratel Claro is engaged in the contribution with the development of Brazilian education and participates actively in the preparation of the educational project at the new unit of Programa Dupla Escola. Instituto Embratel Claro is taking on the costs of hiring pedagogical consultancy for the development of the course plan and teaching staff for the technical disciplines. The Institute is also in charge of acquiring the library collections of content related to the telecommunications course and specific software, besides funding the structuring and deployment of electronics labs, computer networks and telephony facilities, optical networks and video systems, wireless and satellite systems, their maintenance and supply of material and resources. 16 The education model connected to the professional education created by the State Government grants high school certificates and professional qualification. In order to the established partnerships work as planned, generating the gains expected by students, teachers, companies and the Education Department, it is fundamental that each involved party is aware of their respective responsibilities. Built in a land donated by Xuxa Meneghel Foundation, the school will serve 420 students, distributed in 12 classes with 35 students, during the course duration of three years. The school program shall be more attractive, meeting the demands of professional education by young people, resulting in higher levels of permanence in the school, in a pleasing and productive environment. Pedra de Guaratiba region has one of the lowest Human Development Indexes (HDI) in the city of Rio de Janeiro. In this same region the Embratel’s Satellite Ground Base and new Brazilian Army Technology Complex are installed. Projeto Parintins Cidade Digital Parintins Digital City Project (PARTNERED PROJECT) The Institute has participated for ten years, along with Embratel, in a project that makes Parintins (AM), in Ilha de Upinambarana, at the Amazon River, the first digital city in Amazônia. The Company collaborates with the infrastructure for the transmission and reception by WIMAX technology, managing the operations. The Project serves two public schools, one community center, one public library, one training center and one health clinic. In the schools, teachers and students have computer labs with broadband Internet connection, by means of WLAM technology, besides contents of Projeto Embratel Claro Educação, Digital Library, Online Courses and TVPontoCom, also available for the community. Programa Dupla Escola – State School Hebe Camargo will boost the employability of young graduates, and it will also meet the demands for professionals in the telecommunicat ions area in Rio de Janeiro. 17 C O R P O R A T E S O C I A L R E S P O N S I B I L I T Y 2 013 By using Embratel satellite signals and equipment donated to the health clinic, doctors in urban centers can be connected to doctors in distant health clinics for the practice of Telemedicine, benefitting the 110,000 inhabitants of the island. Campus Mobile (PARTNERED PROJECT) One week, 60 students, two days of programming marathon, six lectures and one apps testing lab. Going further: the program recognizes the importance of proving conditions for the development of professional abilities of people with disabilities, encouraging the increase in their self-esteem. Groups of Claro volunteers chose charitable organizations which they would like to offer donations, visits and cultural activities. For the Children’s Day, along with organizations that assist children and teenagers, the group performed games activities and collected basic needs items, pointed by organizations as the most essential. In São Paulo, for example, besides the collection of food, clothes and personal hygiene items to be donated to a shelter, the group took children from this organization for watching a theater play. At the Christmas period, besides the donations, volunteers performed several activities in the institutions benefited. Among these actions, the “adoption” of letters written by children who expressed their desires for Christmas gifts or items they needed. Other volunteering actions in São Paulo were the adoption of more than 400 letters by Claro employees in a partnership with Correios (Brazilian postal service), responsible for the adoption campaign of letters sent by kids to Santa Claus; and the participation in the Christmas celebration, promoted by NGO Liga Solidária, at some deprived communities in the South Zone of São Paulo. 37 C O R P O R A T E S O C I A L R E S P O N S I B I L I T Y 2 013 SOCIAL FOCUS SPORTS Meia Maratona Faz Um 21 The Call 21 Half Marathon (SPONSORED PROJECT) With the purpose of promoting healthy habits and sports practice, the Meia Maratona Faz Um 21 is a running races project which is in its sixth year and has already gathered more than 8,000 participants.
