O grupo de hip hop Black Eyed Peas nasceu em Los Angeles,
originário da dupla Atban Klann. Formada pelos colegas de escola
Will I. Am e Apl de Ap., o Atban Klann tocava intensamente na região
de Los Angeles, quando o empresário Jerry Heller assumiu a
produção da dupla. Eles assinaram um contrato em 1992 com a
Ruthless Records, do músico Eazy-E’s. Gravaram um álbum, mas com
a morte do músico em 1995 tudo foi cancelado e o trabalho ficou
barrado.
The hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas was born in Los Angeles,
originally from double Atban Klann. Formed by school friends
Will I. Am and Apl de Ap, the Atban Klann played extensively in the
Los Angeles area, where the manager Jerry Heller took on the
production duo. They signed a contract in 1992 to Ruthless Records,
Eazy-E of the musician's. They recorded an album, but with the
death of the musician in 1995 everything was canceled and the work
was stopped.
A motivação para tocar voltou com mais força quando Taboo, um amigo
da dupla, entrou no grupo. Eles voltaram a se apresentar na cidade já com
o novo nome, Black Eyed Peas. A essência da música era a rima dos três
MCs e a utilização de samples com uma banda ao vivo. O show não
demorou para chamar atenção, eles conseguiram um contrato com uma
gravadora maior, a Interscope Records, em 1997. O álbum de estréia saiu
no ano seguinte, “Behind the Front”, que contou com a participação da
cantora de soul Macy Gray. O disco surpreendeu a crítica, mas não chegou
a fazer sucesso fora da Califórnia.

The motivation to play again with greater force when Taboo, a friend of
the duo, joined the group.They returned to perform in the city already with
the new name, Black Eyed Peas. The essence of music was the rhyme of the
three MCs and use of samples with a live band. The show did not take long to
attract attention, they got a contract with a major label, Interscope Records in
1997. Their debut album came the next year, "Behind the Front" which was
attended by the soul singer Macy Gray. The album surprised critics, but did not
make it big outside of California.
O trabalho que os levou à projeção nacional foi “Bridging the Gap”,
em 2000, considerado um dos melhores lançamentos daquele ano. O
sucesso do disco estava ligado também à lista de produtores e convidados,
entre eles Wyclef Jean, DJ Premier e novamente Macy Gray. Foram três
anos colhendo os frutos do álbum nos Estados Unidos com shows e uma
boa vendagem. Em um dos shows, eles conheceram a cantora Fergie, que
foi convidada para cantar em uma das faixas do próximo álbum. O grupo
gostou tanto que pediu para ela aparecer em três faixas, depois em cinco,
até que a chamou para fazer parte do Black Eyed Peas permanentemente.

música se tornou primeiro lugar nas paradas de vários países
da Europa e da Austrália e rendeu uma apresentação ao vivo
no Grammy Latino ao lado de Juanes, o grande vencedor da
noite.

novo repertório de inéditas da carreira. O disco traz ainda de
quebra a participação de nomes como James Brown, Sting,
Branford Marsalis, Talib Kwli e Justin Timberlake.

Will.i.am explicou que a inspiração para o nome "Black
Eyed Peas" veio de uma banda famosa, Red Hot Chili Peppers,
uma das bandas que mais o influenciou. Assim como o
quarteto americano, Will queria para o grupo o nome de uma
comida. Black Eyed Peas, traduzido para o português, significa
"feijão-frade".
Will.i.am explained that the inspiration for the name
"Black Eyed Peas" came from a famous band, Red Hot Chili
Peppers, one of the bands that influenced him most. Just as
the American quartet, Will wanted to group the name of a
food. Black Eyed Peas, translated into Portuguese, means
"kidney beans".
Antes de entrar para o Black Eyed Peas, Fergie participava
de uma banda que não deu certo. Quando o empresário da
banda deu para trás Fergie procurou o caminho das drogas.
Fergie chegou a conversar com uma lata de lixo por oito
horas, mas ao entrar para o Black Eyed Peas a cantora
começou a se tratar e continua com o tratamento até hoje, o
que garantiu sua completa recuperação.
