He moved to racin g competit io ns in 1981, and was champio n two years followin g the Brit is h Formula 3 Champio nship. His good performance in the preceding categories led him to make his debut in formula 1 in the Brazil Grand Prix of 1984 Toleman-Hart team. In his first season in the category, Senna quickly had results, leading to small English team to achieve performances ever attained. The fol owing year, he switched to Toleman-Hart by Lotus-Renault, the team for which he won six Grands Prix over three seasons. In 1988, he joined Frenchman Alain Prost (who would be his biggest rival in his career) at McLaren-Honda and lived years victorious by the team. The two together have won 15 of 16 Grands Prix that season, and Senna was world champion for the first time. Prost led the 1989 Championship, and Senna retook the title in 1990-both titles were decided by collisions between the riders in Grand Prix of Japan The following season, Senna won his third world title, becoming the youngest driver to win a championship in formula 1-feat that still maintains to the present day.
