We are at your disposal to help you with your logistic and bureaucratic demands. Belo Horizonte is a famous city for its rich cuisine, its warm people, intense cultural life and broad leisure options. We will help you discover the best that our university and capital of Minas Gerais have to offer to our visitors! We are glad to extend to you a warm welcome to our institution, finding friends and people that will help you collect good stories to tell! Yours sincerely, The Bem-vindo Program Team. 3 BEM-VINDO PROGRAM PRESENTATION The International Relations Department Management, in partnership with the UFMG Tourism Course, structured the Bem-vindo program, primarily, to help foreign professors, researchers and students that are working and/or studying at UFMG. However, the program also aims at assisting the colleagues from education institutions from other states in Brazil or municipalities in Minas Gerais. The Bem-Vindo Program aims mainly at supporting this target audience regarding logistic (housing, transport, food, health) and bureaucratic aspects (getting a visa and ID documents, opening a bank account, among others), contributing thus, for the foreign professors, students and researchers to have an experience of excellence concerning their welcome at UFMG. The Bem-vindo team, with the aim of promoting socialization among the academic community and Exchange students, sends every week a cultural bulletin to all visitors and promotes sociocultural integration events. Moreover, the program also promotes a campaign of sponsoring foreign visitors, an initiative that has helped improve the relationship of exchange students with their study and/or work colleagues. 4 BEM-VINDO PROGRAM TEAM Coordination: Professor Márcia Lousada. The International Relations Department team contributes to your academic guidance, i.e., it will help you regarding your enrolment process, cancelling of disciplines, emission of grade certificates and other demands related to your academic life. Whereas the Bem-Vindo Program team may help you regarding your housing, getting the identification documents, opening the bank account and other steps of logistic and bureaucratic nature. HOW THE BEM-VINDO PROGRAM MAY HELP YOU FIND A PLACE TO LIVE The foreign students, researchers and teachers who are at UFMG have several housing options available in Belo Horizonte. Some agreements, interchange and mobility programs ensure the visitors a stay in the student home at UFMG. In other cases, our Exchange students look for housing options through the register of home hosts (houses, apartments and rooms for rent) made available by the Bem-vindo team. There are places near the UFMG campus (Pampulha) and Belo 6 Horizonte’s center (near the Law, Architecture and Medicine UFMG Colleges). We inform you that the options of rent values vary according to the services available and, and in this case, you yourself can negotiate the price, services and method of payment with the owner of the place. Get in touch with us and request the list of home hosts by e- mail. You can count on our help to find an option that can meet your demand. Living in a safe and pleasant place is the first step for a good academic and cultural exchange experience! HOW TO GET YOUR INDIVIDUAL TAXPAYER ID – CPF You will need this document to be able to do your Foreign Exchange Registration in the UFMG Post-Graduate programs and for other purposes such as opening a bank account. So, let’s go! It would be best to get the Individual Taxpayer ID/CPF as soon as possible! To get your CPF you just have to go to Receita Federal, at Av. Afonso Pena, nº 1316, 4th floor, Centro. Attention: take cash with you, because a R$ 5.70 rate will be charged for making the document. Documents you need to take: Provide the original or certified copy of your ID document. As an ID document you may take one of those options: • Identity card issued in your home country or a document issued by the embassy of your home country; 7 • RNE – Foreigners’ National Identity Card; • Passport; • RNE Protocol together with printed search screen of the SINCRE (National Foreigners’ System) which has register data such as parents’ names, nationality and date of birth. The ID documents presented by foreigners do not need to have the parents’ names. Moreover, when they are not written in Portuguese, the documents should come with a sworn translation. How can you check your CPF registration? After requesting your CPF you should follow up and check if your registration was successful. If your registration was done by an associated unit or by a Brazilian diplomatic representation, use the service code received for follow up, via internet, of your request and to get your CPF number. To check your enrollment you can show the document where the CPF number was inserted or with the "CPF Enrollment Document” together with the ID document. Attention: the CPF request for foreigners who are in Brazil will be finalized at a Receita Federal unit. The interested party should wait for the delivery of a mail with the request to show up at the Receita Federal unit. When you go to the Receita Federal unit, remember to take an ID document and the protocol with the service code of the associated unit. If you do not show up by the given deadline, your request will be cancelled. We understand that this guide to get your CPF may cause some doubt.
