BRIX announces the results of
the first couple of days of operations
Rio de Janeiro, August 1, 2011 – BRIX, the electronic platform for electric power
trading, announces today the volume that has been negotiated in the first couple of
days of trading. On July 28 and 29 30 deals were closed totaling 40.305 MWh for spot
delivery (July, 11) as well as for future months. The contracts that were negotiated
involved conventional and incentivized energy both at a fixed price and at “PLD +
premium” price. Firm offers were also made for several future contracts with delivery
up to 2013.
“We are extremely pleased with the successful launch of BRIX. This is the first of a
series of measures to increase the transparency of the Brazilian electric energy free
market. We believe BRIX will make an important contribution to the development of
the infra-structure market in Brazil which shall benefit all the agents of the free
market”, states the Presidento of ICE, Chuck Vice.
In all, thirty companies have already joined BRIX – among them are Agroenergia
Comercializadora, Bunge, CESP, Clealco, Compass, Coteminas, Eletronorte, Eucatex,
Ibrame Laminação, MPX, Quanta, Rexam, Seal Energy and White Martins.
Other companies – such as Alcoa, AmBev, Anglo Ferrous, Camargo Correa, CSN,
Duratex, Latapack, Novelis, Petrobras, Renova, Vale and Votorantim – are currently
analysing BRIX’s participants’ documentation.

demonstrates the willingness of the agents of the Free Contracting Environment
(Ambiente de Contratação Livre - ACL) to increase the efficiency of the Brazilian energy
market. We are confident in the continued growth of BRIX, with strong volumes and an
ever larger number of participants”, highlights the CEO of BRIX, Marcelo Mello.
BRIX already makes available to the participants of the platform, the negotiation of
three products: “Conventional Energy (at a fixed price), “Conventional Energy PLD +
Premium” and “Incentivized Energy 50% (at a fixed price). All are for monthly,
quarterly, semi-annual and annual deliveries up until 2013 And with delivery in the
four Brazilian hubs (Southeast/Center-West, South, Northeast and North).
