Presented by acclaimed musician, actor and new runner Seu Jorge, the event, which features executives and more than 20 elite athletes, unveils Nike’s plans leading up to next summer’s global event. Continuous updates from the event will be posted below, in real time, starting at 11:11 am, local time. 11:11 am: Seu Jorge sets the day’s tone, both onstage and via Twitter: https://twitter.com/nikebrasil. 11:15 am: “Nike’s commitment is as much about the everyday athlete as the elite one,” says Cristian Corsi, President, Nike Brasil. Corsi explains how Nike will continue to inspire day-to-day athletes through premier products and services, such as the Nike+ Run Club, Nike+ Running App, Nike+ Training Club and others. Next comes the big news: Nike will partner with the Rio de Janeiro City Hall to create a long-term platform that instills a love of sports in future generations. 11:27 am: Henry Rabello, Vice-President, Marketing and Olympics, Nike Brasil, presents VEM JUNTO, a platform that unifies individual athletic goals to form a collective movement. “Change can be big or small,” declares Rabello. “But it starts with action.” Learn more about the Vem Junto platform at news.nike.com/news/vem-juntoserve-e-inspira-brasileiros 11:39 am: Athletes Fernando Fernandes, Verônica Hipólito, Pedro Scooby and Duda join Seu Jorge and four Vem Junto pacers onstage. The group recounts how sports changes lives, and Seu Jorge officially commits to the movement by creating a run on the Vem Junto platform. 11:48 am: “Vem Junto is part of a broader community plan,” says Alice Gismonti, Community Impact Director, Nike Brasil. Based on Nike´s 2013 commitment to inspire and motivate young athletes — a pledge that has already positively impacted more than 56,000 Brasilian kids — the long-term plan seeks to celebrate sports and physical activity, and impart a love for them in the country’s youth. Nike seeks to achieve this objective by partnering with the Rio de Janeiro City Hall to expand access to sport by revitalizing 21 community centers (called Olympic Villages) in the city. Each Village will receive sports programming and other services from Nike. The first Village will be Encantado (http://news.nike.com/news/rio-olympic-villages-encantado). Learn more about the Olympic Villages at news.nike.com/news/rio-s-olympicvillages-inspire-the-next-generation-of-athletes 12:07 pm: Seu Jorge welcomes Olympic Village ambassadors, including artist Kajaman and sprinters Ana Claudia Lemos, Aldemir Gomes, Vitor Hugo, Jefferson Lucindo and Jorge Vides. The group discusses the project’s potential impact in Carioca communities. “Olympic Villages are happy places – places where talent can be discovered. Many young people from the neighborhood have the opportunity to practice sports there. This is good for the mind, body and health,” clarifies Vitor Hugo Mourão dos Santos, a 19-year-old 100-meter sprinter who currently trains at the Jacarepaguá Olympic Village. 12:15 pm: Seu Jorge closes the event by inviting 20-plus athletes, including Olympic legends and future Brasilian sport stars, to the stage to underscore the Vem Junto invitation.
