UAB COURSE DESCRIPTION The 14th course follows those previously held in Seville and Barcelona since 1994. This time, relevant diagnostic problems in thyroid carcinomas and gastrointestinal tumors will be discussed by two pathologists of international renown: Dr. John K. C. Chan, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Hong Kong, China, an authority on Surgical Pathology of almost all tumor types, and Dr. Rhonda Yantiss, New York HospitalWeill Cornell Medical College, New York, USA, director of the “Tutorial on Pathology of the GI tract Pancreas and Liver”. Besides lecturing, they will present dynamic Surgical Pathology seminars. The course will also include recent advances in pathology of gynecologic and breast tumors, as well as the corresponding most recent WHO classifications. As always, attention will be paid to clinicopathologic correlation and differential diagnosis. The molecular genetic alterations of the most frequent cancers will be discussed together with their conventional pathological features. The course will be highly interactive. The faculty will present lectures and seminar cases emphasizing diagnostic criteria, prognostic parameters and elaboration of pathology reports. Lectures and seminars will be given in English for the first two days and in Spanish the third day. Accordingly, registration is offered for two or three days. The course will be useful for pathology residents and specialists willing to update their knowledge on diagnostic surgical pathology of tumors.
