BRAZILIAN AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE SERVIÇO PÚBLICO FEDERAL EFFECTIVE DATE: DEPARTAMENTO DE AVIAÇÃO CIVIL AD No.: 08 May 2000 98-11-01R1 The following Airworthiness Directive (AD), issued by the Departamento de Aviação Civil (DAC) in accordance with provisions of Chapter IV, Title III of Código Brasileiro de Aeronáutica - Law No. 7,565 dated 19 December 1986 - and Regulamento Brasileiro de Homologação Aeronáutica (RBHA) 39, applies to all aircraft registered in the Registro Aeronáutico Brasileiro. No person may operate an aircraft to which this AD applies, unless it has previously complied with the requirements established herein. AD Nr. 98-11-01R1 - EMBRAER - Amendment 39-876 APPLICABILITY: This Airworthiness Directive is applicable to Embraer EMB-145 aircraft models of serial numbers 145004 thru 145075. CANCELLATION / REVISION: This AD supersedes AD No. 98-11-01 – Amdt. 39-842, dated 13 Nov 1998, and is being revised to present an alternate means of compliance, as described in the Note of the item "Compliance". REASON: It has been found the occurrence of leakage in the engine bleed line due to explosive failure of the flexible joints to withstand the hot bleed air pressure. This failure condition may cause damage to other systems parts installed close to the bleed line, which may also affect the flight safety in certain operating flight conditions. Since this condition may occur in other airplanes of the same type and affect flight safety, an immediate corrective action is required. Thus, sufficient reason exists to request compliance with this AD in the indicated time limit. REQUIRED ACTION: Replacement of flexible joints (Gamah joints) with stronger ones in rear fuselage I; replacement of O-rings at the other bleed line flexible joints in the fuselage with temperature resistant improved ones; and installation of new supports to improve bleed line tubing alignment. COMPLIANCE: Required as indicated below, unless already accomplished. Within the next 400 flight operating hours after the effective date of this AD, carry out the following actions: – Remove the necessary passenger seats, passenger cabin floor panels and cabin internal panels to gain access to the bleed line under passenger cabin floor; – Remove baggage compartment internal and floor panels as well as proper fuselage external panel to gain access to the bleed lines in rear fuselage I; – Remove the dorsal fin, near the vertical stabilizer; – Replace the flexible joints in rear fuselage I; Form FDH-900-04B CONTINUATION OF AD No.: 98-11-01R1 - AMENDMENT 39-876 PAGE No.: 2/2 – Replace the O-rings at the other bleed line flexible joints; – Install new supports on the bleed line; and, – Restore the airplane to normal. The detailed instructions and procedures to accomplish this AD are described in the Embraer Service Bulletin No. 145-36-0007, original issue, or further revisions approved by the CTA. NOTE: The Embraer Service Bulletin No. 145-36-0015 Rev. 2 recommends the instalation of new improved O-rings, which may be used for accomplishment of this AD. The installation of new O-rings should follow procedures described in the Embraer Service Bulletin No. 145-36-0015 Rev. 2, or further revisions approved by the CTA. Record compliance with this AD in the applicable maintenance log book.
